The Will of Thomas Ollier of Over Marton, Yeoman (Died 1685)

Below is a transcription of the original will & inventory, all names are in large script or bold for ease of reference.

Note: These documents were written during the Old Julian Calender!

In the name of God Amen the Seventeenth day of Ffebruary in the year of our Lord god one thousand six hundred and Eighty five And in the second year of the Raigne of our Soveraigne Lord James the Second by the grace of God over England Scotland Ffrance and Ireland and King Defender of the faith Etc: I Thomas Ollier of Over marton in the Parish of Whitegate and the County of Chester Yeom. beinge sicke and weake in body but (blefsed be god) of sound perfect and cool dispofsinge memory doe therefore thus make my last will and testamt. in manner followinge Ffirst and principally I give and bequeath and bequeath my soule into the hands of allmighty god my creator and to Jefus Christ his onely Son my redeemer and Saviour by whose most precious bloodsheedinge I faithfully truft to receive free pardon remifsion and forgivenefs of all my Sins and transgrefsions and my body I commit to ye early their to be interred in decent manner at the difcretion of my Executors hereafter named. And conserning that Temporall Estate which god of his goodnefs hath endowed me with all I dispose of the same as followeth Item My mind and will is that all my Debts Herriot and Funerall Expenses shall be honestly and truly discharged and paid

Itm. I leave and bequeath unto my sonne John Ollier the Bedstocks in the parlour with all the beddinge and the furniture thereto belonginge, the Cupboard and the Dishboard in the houfe and the Cupboard in the parlour the longe table and frame in the houfe and alfoe ye falling table one great Joynt Chest in the parlour and one great Brafs Kettle And alfoe all the Shilves in the Buttery and howse with all the Stone Troughs about the howfe.

Itm. My will and mind that where as I have heretofore putt my Said Son John Ollier his life into my leafe In consideraton whereof I doe hereby charge my said sonne well and truly to pay or caufe to be paid unto my two daughters Mary Ollier and Sufanna Ollier the full sume of twenty pounds Lawfull English money Equally to be divided betwixt them and to be paid within three moneths next after my Said Sons Entrance upon all or one moiety of my Mefsuage Tenement and lands.

Itm. I leave and bequeath unto my now wife Mary Ollier One pair of Bedstocks with the beddinge and furniture belonginge to it Standinge next the doore in the Lower Chamber.

Itm. I leave and bequeath the rest residue and the Remainder of all my goods and Cattells and Chattels both quicke and dead in whofe hands cuftody or pofsefsion the same are or may be found for to be Equally divided betwixt my two said daughters Mary Ollier and Sufanna Ollier And further my will is that if either of my said daughters happen to depart this life before she attaine the age of one and twenty years and unmarried then in such cafe the part or portion of her soe deceafinge Shall remaine and be to and for the onely ufe benifit and behoofe [1] of ye other Surviveinge within exception in any wife. And to the end this my laft will and Testament may be performed accordinge to the true intent and meaning thereof. I doe hereby nominate constitute and appoint my lovinge friends Henry Bradshawe of Alloftock and William Ollier of Wimboldsley, both in the said County of Chester Executors of the same, hereby renouncinge revokinge and makinge null and void all other or former will or wills whatfoever by me heretofore made or caufed to be made and publifh this for my Last will and Testamt. In witnefs whereof I the said Thomas Ollier have hereunto putt my hand and seale the day and year first above written

Impris. nine Cows 4 in Calf Heifers 3 barren heifers and 1 Bull £39 6s 8d

Six names are mentioned in this will that were also mentioned in his farthers will (John Ollier) they are as follows:

Wiliam Ollier of Wimboldsley William was a named executor in John's will, and a trustee in Thomas's will (It is almost certain that William was a nephew to John Ollier & therefore cousin to Thomas)

Ralph Darlington, he was a witness to John's will and also named in Thomas's inventory above.

Richard Bowyer, ditto.

Mary Ollier, Thomas's daughter.

John Ollier, Thomas's son.
