Hannah Ollier at Quarry Bank Mill, Styal, Cheshire

All names are in bold for ease of reference.

Below is the entry for Hannah Ollier, regarding a medical certificate under the Factories Regulation Act, it confirms her fitness to work for her employer, R Greg & Co. the owners of the now famous Quarry Bank Cotton Mill at Styal Nr. Wilmslow, Cheshire. The year is 1850, note that it is stated that the child is at least eight years old! Hannah's farther, George Ollier, came from the Middlewich Area, he was the son of Thomas Ollier & Lydia Siddall. George Ollier's first wife, Hannah Arrowsmith, was buried at Wilmslow in 1836, he went on to marry Mary Ann, I do not have her surname yet. We think that Hannah was probably their daughter Ann recorded in the 1851 Census for Oak Cottages, Pownall Fee, Styal, Cheshire, in it Ann (Hannah) gives her occupation as a Cotton Winder, her age is given as twelve years old, her birth record gives her year of birth as 1840, she must therefore, have been ten years old when she first started working at the mill.
