Our family was started by Louis Olivier and Magdeleine Henault.

Louis Olivier was born in May, 1720 in Paris, France and died in  Ste Genevieve Berthierville, Quebec, Canada on February 7, 1785. He was the son of Pierre Olivier and Marie-Anne Dubuc of St-Eustache, Paris, France.

Louis first married Marie-Joseph Buisson. She was born in 1725 and died May 6, 1743, one month after the birth of their child Marguerite, who was born April 5, 1743. Baby Marguerite died June 19, 1743.

Louis married his second wife, Marie Magdeleine Henault on October 24, 1757 in Ste Genevieve de Berthier, Quebec. This marriage produced 13 children. Five of the surviving children were sons who make up the five lines of descendants.

   Jean Baptiste Olivier – 3^rd line of descendants

   Joseph Ambroise Olivier – 4^th line of descendants

   Pierre Olivier – 5^th line of descendants

In 1929, two priests, Ernest Olivier and Alphonse Houle printed the first version of the Olivier Dit Lavictoire genealogy. This edition contained names from the five lines of descendants and was only available in French.

We have now translated it into English and through extensive research  have been able to add many more names to it. We are going to publish this edition in the summer of 2002. There will be a copy of the book available in the National Library of Canada in Ottawa, Ontario as well as in the National Library of Quebec located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada for research purposes only.

This revised and enhanced edition will also be available for purchase. It will be a soft cover book containing not only the written genealogy but also ancestral and present day photos that we have in our possession. We have also gone to great lengths in verifying statistical data of births, marriages and deaths from the original parish and civil records, as microfilmed by the Mormon Church. This was done to ensure that our information is as accurate as it can possibly be. We have given the microfilm reel numbers for these reference sources. Of course we have not as yet been able to verify all the dates in the book, as this is an arduous ongoing task.

With the phenomenal response we have received from Olivier family members, interest in the book has become more successful than we could imagine. With 2000 names and many family photos provided to us from generous relatives, we are now estimating the fee for the OLIVIER FAMILY GENEALOGY Book to be $70 to $100 (CND or US) Plus postage and handling. Our intent is to just recover the cost of publishing and shipping. We will establish the exact final cost once we have all the documentation and photos into the publisher.

We would be very happy to hear from our Olivier family as many of the descendants moved to the United States and other parts of Canada. If you have some Olivier names you would like to include in this edition of our Olivier genealogy, please advise us at one of the following e-mail addresses by September 30th, 2002. We will then give you a postal address that you can use to mail us a copy of the birth, marriage or death certificate, for verification of the information you are submitting. We would also be very interested in any copies of ancestral pictures you would like to share.
