OBITUARY OF CAPTAIN WILLIAM HENRY MORGAN

The Henry Bulletin, Martinsville, Virginia, 27 August 1920

Captain W.H. Morgan, the oldest member of the Floyd County bar, died at his home in Floyd, Friday morning after a protracted illness. Captain Morgan was an ardent member of the Methodist church. In his early manhood, he entered the Confederate Army as orderly sergeant of "The Clifton Grays," of Campbell County. The company was mustered into service as Company C and became part of the 11th Virginia Regiment, Kemper's Brigade, Pickett's Division. Private Morgan soon became captain of his company and served in all the battles in which that noted regiment was engaged until his capture in May 1864. Captain Morgan, while true to the Union after the Civil War, never forgot the cause for which he fought. Some years ago, he wrote "Personal Reminiscences of the War of 1861-5," a publication which was widely circulated.
