SERVICES SET FOR BEATRICE SMITH

Funeral services for Beatrice Sheppard Smith, 92, Crystal River, formerly of Apopka, who died Monday, February 16, will be held tomorrow, Saturday, February 21, at 11 a.m. at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, Apopka chapel. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Smith was a fourth-generation Floridian, born June 7, 1911, in Pinetta. She and her family moved to Apopka in 1917, and then briefly to Groveland, before returning to Apopka in 1923, where the family owned the Apopka Drug Company for many years.

Mrs. Smith graduated from Apopka Memorial High School in 1929 and from Florida State Teacher's College for Women in Tallahassee in 1937. A teacher, she taught mathematics in Aucilla, Pine Castle, and Apopka, where she taught algebra and geometry for 11 years.

She and her husband moved to Sanford in 1949, where they owned the Western Auto Store until 1965. She was a Methodist.

Her husband, Fred M. Smith, died in 1984. Also a former Apopkan, he was in business at Skipworth Service Station for a number of years.

Mrs. Smith is survived by two sons, F. Leslie of Gainesville and Michael D. of Longwood; a brother, Walter G. Sheppard, Apopka; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
