GEORGE "JUG" ANDERSON, JR., 86, Smithville, Tennessee, died Friday, January 16. Mr. Anderson was a retired Marine Corps master sergeant and retired supervisor at the University of Central Florida. He was a former resident of Apopka and the manager of Apopka's first Little League team in 1968. He played baseball for the Apopka town team in the Orange-Lake League. He was a member of Smithville Church of God. Survivors: wife, Juanita; sons, John, Tim, both of Smithville; daughters, Donna, Nashville, Gail Morrill, Charleston, S.C., Karen Kidd, Smithville, Deanna Wall, Henersonville; eight grandchildren. SYLVIA (SHIMEK) WALDORF, 78, Apopka, died Tuesday, January 13. Mrs. Waldorf was a homemaker. She was born in Mosinee, Wisconsin. She was a member of Forest Lake Seventh-day Adventist Church. Survivors: husband, Frank; son, Robert Shimek, Fort Pierce; daughters, Mary Ann Moyer, Berrien Springs, Mich., Jennifer Tucker, Vancouver, Wash.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. BILLE JEAN BRASS, 70, Apopka, died Friday, January 16. Mrs. Brass was a teacher at Dream Lake Elementary for 22 years. She was born in Hartsville, Tennessee. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Apopka. Survivors: sons, Drew, Apopka, Barry, Rome, Ga.; brother, Kenneth Driver, Osteen; five granddaughters.
RUBY ELOISE MATTEO, 65, Leesburg, died Wednesday, January 14. Mrs. Matteo was a bus driver for Orange County Public Schools. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church. Survivors: husband, Louis J.; daughters, Cathie Bazner, Fort Lauderdale, Cahtie Mach, Clermont, Lorraine Moore, Halleyville, Ala., Debbi O'Neill, Apopka, Melissa, Leesburg; sons, Roberg Senger, Orlando, Russell Senger, Coconut Creek; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
JERRY D. CARVER, 60, Newark, Ohio, died Thursday, January 15. Mr. Carver was a manager for Kroger Grocery. He was a veteran of the National Guard. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Newark. Survivors: wife, Betty J.; daughter, Kelly P. BOBBY C. STEWARD, 97, Apopka, died Thursday, January 15. Mrs. Steward was a homemaker. Born in Newton County, Georgia, she moved to Central Florida in 1958. She was a member of Calvary Assembly of God, Winter Park. Survivors: daughter-in-law, Joyce Steward Spencer, Apopka; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. JOHN J. MICELI, 71, Loch Calder Drive, Apopka, died Monday, January 5. Mr. Miceli was retired from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and later worked for the Grand Cypress Golf Resort. He was born in New London, Connecticut. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a former manager and coach for Pine Hills Little League. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #11488 and Elks Lodge #360. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Apopka. Survivors: sons, John J., Jr., Marietta, Ga., Michael, Roswell, Ga., David, Montgomery, Ala., Stephen, Glastonbury, Conn.; brother, Edward M., Ocala; 11 grandchildren.
ELIZABETH A. ECKART, 53, Apopka, died Monday, January 19. Mrs. Eckart was a receiving manager for JoAnn Fabrics. Born in Red Bank, New Jersey, she moved to Central Florida in 1991. She was Catholic. Survivors: husband, Merwin C.; daughters, Nora Maddox, Tarpon Springs, Lisa Kelley, Apopka; sister, Grace Baum, Hazlet, N.J.; brothers, Robert Hoffman, Rumson, N.J., Joseph Hoffman, Red Bank, Richard Hoffman, Apopka, George Hoffman, North Carolina; several stepchildren; three grandchildren. LAURENCE F. MYERS, 99, Apopka, died Saturday, January 17. Mr. Myers was a retired minister of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He was born in Belfast, New York, and moved to Central Florida in 1998. JOSEPH ANTHONY CAMINITI, 56, Apopka, died Sunday, January 18. Mr. Caminiti was a purchasing agent for the U.S. Government. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he moved to Central Florida in 1998. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Apopka. He was a member of the Eucharistic Ministry, Ministr to the Sick, St. Vincent de Paul Society, and a Deputy Grand Knight of St. Francis Council #11673 of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of Monsignor Bishop Assembly #0162, a teacher for CCD program and tutor for children of Florida farm workers.
