| <b>Obit for William O Stephenson </b>June 20 1973 , Galena, Kansas 'Columbus Daily Advocate', Wed. June 20, 1973 FORMER GALENA MAYOR DIES Galena, KS William (Bill) O. Stephenson, 83, former mayor, died at 9:05 last night at a Galena nursing home. He had been in ill health the last five weeks. Mr. Stephenson was born Feb 27, 1890 in Paducah,Kan. He married Mabel Jarrett on June 20, 1915 in Galena. She died Sept 18, 1972. Mr. Stephenson had lived in Galena for 80 years. He was a street car conductor in the early days of the town and was later employed by Spencer Chemical Jayhawk Works(now Gulf Chemical) retiring in 1958. He was a member of tghe Methodist Chruch. He belonged tothe Galena Masonic Lodge, No. 194, AF & AM and was a member of the Amy Chapter No 195, of the Order of the Eastern Star. He was a former school board member and had served as mayor of Galena. He also served as a police judge and was a member of the Selective Service Board. Survivors include a son, John O. Stephenson, Galena; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Lou Allgood, Joplin; two sisters, Mrs. Nelle Johnson, Joplin, and Mrs. Blanche Beem, Neosho; a brother , Edward Stephenson, Oklahoma City; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Services will be announced by the Derfelt Funeral Home of Galena.
