Ten days ago he was taken ill with stomach trouble and medical skill proved of no avail. The attending physicians Thursday gave up all hope of saving his life. In the death of the deceased the county loses one of the old pioneers. He came with his parents from Steuben county, New York, in 1840. The family settled in Section 4. Licking township. Several other families had come along with them, and they all made quite a colony. The journey was made by wagon and required thirty-one days. For many years the deceased had lived on his farm in Washington township. In Nov. 8, 1850 he was united in marriage to Mary Mills and to this union were born five children, Albert, Minerva, John B., McDowell and Thomas, all of whom with the mother survive him. Mr. Saxon served as sheriff of the county two terms from 1870, and made one of the best officers the county ever had. He was a man with a kind heart and thoroughly honest and conscientious. His friends were legion and the news of his death is received by them with genuine regret. The funeral procession will leave the house tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock and the remains will be conveyed to I.O.O.F. cemetery. Transcirber's note: IOOF cemetery records: Saxon, Sr., John ?
