Abraham Jr., with his father-in-law, purchased a tract of 640acres lying about a miles above the village of North Branch,Somerset County. It was bought of Governor Morris of New York,agent for the Dutchess of Gordon. John Van Derveer built andsettled on the northern part of the tract and Abraham Quick onthe southern part, where he lived and died at the advanced ageof 92 years. He served in various public capacities as Justice,President of the New Brunswick & Eastern Turnpike Co., Etc. Hewas active in the organization and building of the ReformedChurch at North Branch, where he was an Elder. His will, provedJanuary 11, 1867, provides for his wife, Mary Van Derveer, and"for her convenience to get to church and elsewhere, she is tohave a horse and carriage to be kept on the farm, as well as twochoice cows and her firewood brought to the door," all at theexpense of his executors. He gives residue of the estate tosons, Abraham and John, and a legacy to daughter Jane.[grsshppre1.ged]
