| [fowlvill.ged] In 1943 Troy joined Walter Fowler in the timber business. Troy acquired an army truck to supplement his four mules in hauling timber up and down the Big Buffalo River. A major flood occurred in the valley in 1945. According to Dixie, "....As Troy watched the river slowly rising, he remembered the brand new truck and manure spreader sitting near the barn.....Troy, his son Bill, and three older men rushed down to the barn to try to get the vehicles moved to higher ground but it was too late.. They didn't even reach the barn before the water got too high. Then it cut them off from the house. They retreated to the highest part of the field, but he water continued to rise. Their only escape was to climb a big walnut tree. Dixie watched from the house and saw the light that they carried go up into the tree, so she knew where they were. They had to stay there until midnight (4 hours).
Troy Fowler
Troy Fowler, 79 of Boxley, Arkansas, died March 23, 1985 at his home.
