I have a letter dated Nov 5, 1978 from my great aunt Mary Smith Butler that states "....your G. Grandmother Margrett had one only sister Sally (Sarah) Farmer Arbaugh; one half-sister Nancy Farmer Smith 4 halfbrothers, Coppie Farmer Tom- David and Sam. " I thought that Nancy was a younger sister and didn't realize that Margaret was from William's 2nd marriage, even though it said HALF sister.
The original census notes for Nancy H. Ivins lists:
<PRE>
Ivins James 49 Farming Tenn NC Tenn
Elizabeth 51 Tenn Tenn Tenn
Nancy H 18 Tenn Tenn Tenn
Louiza 15
David B 13
Jesse C 6
</PRE>
They are listed on the same page as Francis Arbaugh with a son named Abraham W. Arbaugh, probably the second husband to Nancy Hazeltine. I'll have to check that out. My great aunt also wrote " Your GG was Hazeltin Evins Farmer. Also her last marrage Arbaugh-the Ab Arbaugh-half Bro-of Margrett was borne out of wed-lock and took the name of Arbaugh. Also his stepfather schooled him and made a laywer of him. .... I got this information from a very close Cousin Gertie Stydvin (Studyvin??) who is in her 80 yrs now. "
I also have a James Evans listed with Elizabeth in the 1900 Census(Plumlee, Newton Co.) Sarah M Farmer (age 16, May 1884) and Margaret L Farmer (age13, Arpril 1887) are listed as grand daughters.
A lot of my notes were not added to my Family Tree files because I didn't have a real connection, only a suspicion. Most of my research has beenon the Loring name, but I have went in every direction from there. As you know I also am researching the Maynard/ Whitely name ( another mystery).
