| [fowlvill.ged] At the age of 24 John B. Mcferrin Jr. joined the 36th Regiment, Company D of Alabama Volunteers on May 13, 1862, at Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and served through June 16, 1865. He was Corporal Commander of General Clayton's Division and participated in the Battle of Lookout Mountain, Missionary Ridge, Chickamauga, Nashville and Antietam. At the close of the war he returned to his home in Alabama and engaged in farming and teaching school. In 1866-69 with his father, John B. Sr., and Brother-in-law George Blackston, removed to Harrisburg, Arkansas, in Poinsett County, making the trip by ox team. He remained there a year or so then removed to what is now Boone County, camping at a spring where Harrison now stands. They resided at Bellefonte, Capps and Batavia, until around 1875. They then homesteaded 160 acres at Compton, Arkansas. John B. Jr. was a staunch Democrat. He held office of justice of the peace and served on the school board. |
