| [fowlvill.ged] Roane? 1816? Moved with parents to Boone? Co. MO at age 7 (1823). Later went to Taney Co. MO: owned a grist and saw mill, and also improved a farm. Later sold mills and concentrated on farming until 1854 when he started for Texas. He was the only settler for ten miles up the creek. He purchased 690 acres of land from Captain Erath where he built a cabin. Sowed a crop of wheat, but the next spring a snowstorm came and killed it to the ground. It afterward sprouted up and made 8 or 10 bushels to the acre. 1893 owned 400 acres of good land and had 140 acres cultivated by tenants. Held the office of Postmaster at Mt. Olivet for many years and belonged to the Methodist Episcopal Church. 1870-1900 lived West of Brazos River in McLennan Co. TX Resided in McLennan Co. until his death. |
