Mrs. Bogart and their son, Sammy, who with Mr. Bogart were driving to Claremore to attend a Camp Fatherest Out, and the other two occupants of the Independence car. Hoover Crittenden and Lan Lindsey, are still in the hospital at Nowata, but none is believed to be in serious condition."

Cora Ball was "a generous, kind and loving woman...well-educated (for the times)...the old Ball mill, near Lebanon, Missouri was built by her father. The old timers there can direct you to it. The Amos family and the Ball family shared a small cemetery nearby...Dr. Amos was a public health official in Springfield and State Director in the late 1940's and 50's of Missouri."

"The rivers here are beautiful. When my Dad (Frank Bogart) was there, the old mill grinding stone was in the water nearby to see. He told me (about this)."

"Cora, his wife died on May 18, 1918, at their home in Clinton Missouri. She was the daughter of Henry and Mary Ball, and one of a family of nine children: John, Orla, Robert, Tom, Mary, Elizabeth, Nora, Cora, Rosa. She was born in Ashland, Illinois, January 24, 1863. Her father brought her family to Missouri in 1866, bought a farm and errected a flour mill, 14 miles southeast of Lebanon, where she grew to young womanhood. she was above average in intelligence, even tempered and a devoted mother and not withstanding the many hardships, maintained a cheerfull disposition throughout her life."

According to oral history from Flora Ball Duncan:
"The BALL family originated in Berkshire England, where the eldest son had the title of Baronet. In colonial days, three younger sons, William, John and Joseph migrated to America: William settling in Virginia, becoming ancestor of Mary BALL, the motherh of George Washington; John settled in New York and was ancestor of Henry BALL, my grandfather; Joseph settled in Pennsylvania and died without children. My maternal grandfather was the linial descendant of the famous Douglas family of Scotland. Henry BALL, my grandfather married Julia Smith of Wyatt Estridge who fought under Washington Through the Revolution. On her mother's side, she was a descendant of the Hall family who settled in Jamestown among the earliest settlers."

NOTE: Death Certificate indicates Cora BALL was born in "Ashley, (Washington County) Illinois". G.W. BOGART indicates Cora was born in "Ashland (Cass County), Illinois."

Cass County Recorder:
County information indicates that "no birth record was found for Cora Ball for Jan 1, 1863...at that time birth records were not required by the State of Illinois..."¹

     Thomas David Vansant was born on 10 October 1873 at La Due, Henry County, Missouri.^2,1 Thomas David Vansant married Elnora Jane Keys on 4 November 1897.¹ Thomas David Vansant died from cerebral haemorrhage on 25 July 1958 at Clinton, Henry County, Missouri, at age 84 years, 9 months and 15 days.^3,1
     Thomas David Vansant was a Farmer.^4,1 He resided at Davis Township, Henry County, Missouri.¹ From Tom Vansant's Obituary in The Clinton Eye, July 29, 1958:

"Last rites for Tom Vansant, 84 who died July 25 at Clinton General Hospital where he had entered four days earlier, were conducted at 2:30pm, July 27, at the Vansant Funeral Home by the Rev. Lawrence Gill, pastor of the Clinton Presbyterian Church...Pallbearers were grandsons, Sam Bogart, Jim Campbell, William L. Vansant, Robert Vansant, Richard Sinclair and Carl Allen Vansant. Burial was in Englewood Cemetery.

Thomas David Vansant, the fourth youngest of nine children of Samuel allen and Elizabeth Jane Voyles Vansant, was born Oct. 10, 1873, northwest of LaDue on the old homeplace. He grew to manhood there and on Nov. 4, 1897, married Elnora Jane Keys who preceded him in death on Oct. 20, 1936. To this union five children were born.

In the early 1920's the family moved south of Clinton, then to Clinton in 1926. Four years later, in 1930, the Vansants established a greenhouse at their home, 311 W. Green. Mr. Vansant, with a definite "green thumb," gained a wide patronage with his thrifty, sturdy plants. His integrity and his willingness to serve his customers, together with his congenial manner made him many friends, all of whom he cherished. He discontinued the greenhouse a number of years ago.

In early years he united with the Bear Creek Methodist Church, then later with the LaDue Christian. Since moving to Clinton he had transferred his membership to the Clinton Christian Church. He was an honorary member of the IOOF Lodge.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Carl (Geneva) Campbell, Kansas City, and Mrs. Percy (Iva Mae) Bogart, Indianapolis; three sons, Emmett A. and Howard L., Clinton and \Earl W., Coffeyville, Kansas, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. W. A. (Mattie) Fellhauer, Clinton; a brother, Arthur, Montrose; many other relatives and friends. Three brothers, Frank, Joe and Jim, and three sisters, Gail, Emma and Ida preceded him in death."

Death Certificate indicates Thomas David Vansant died in General Hospital and was in care for 4 days.

     Elnora Jane Keys was born on 22 October 1878 at La Due, Henry County, Missouri.^2,1 Elnora Jane Keys was born on 22 October 1878; in La Due, Missouri which is a suburb of St. Louis.^3,1 Elnora Jane Keys married Thomas David Vansant on 4 November 1897.¹ Elnora Jane Keys died from cerebral thrombosis on 20 October 1936 at Clinton, Henry County, Missouri, at age 57 years, 11 months and 28 days.^2,1
     Elnora Jane Keys was described as Medical: Was in hospital for at least 5 days before death.¹ Elnora was living in Montrose, Missouri when William died.¹ Before Elnora died on October 20, 1936, she had been ill since January of that year with a type of paralysis.

Elnora..."was born October 22, 1878 near LaDue, the daughter of William and Mollie Keys. Her father passed to life hereafter in 1912, but her mother, now of Montrose, survives her daughter. As a child, Mrs. Vansant attended local schools and grew to sweet womanhood to become the cherished wife of Thomas David Vansant, November 4, 1897."

Mr. and Mrs. Vansant made their home near LaDue where he farmed and where their children were born. Ten years ago they moved to Clinton, establishing their home at 311 West Green Street and with their children about them became an importanta part of community life. Their sons are able business men and their daughters charming wives. All are loyal Christians, and Mrs. Vansant was long president of her Sunday School class, which she faithfully attended until last Christmas."

"Mrs. Vansant is survived by her mother, Mrs. Mollie Keys, Montrose; her husband of the home; sons, Howard L., Emmett A. and Earl W. Vansant, and daughters, Mrs. Carl Campbell and Mrs. Percy Bogart, Clinton, also four grandchildren, Billy Lee, Bobby Gene and Mary Jane Vansant and Sammy Lewis Bogart. The funderal services were conducted Wednesday afternoon by Rev. A. N. Lindsay at the Christian Church and the body was laid to rest in Englewood. The pallbearers were: Arthur Borum, Arthur and Clyde Wilson, Otto Volkman, Gene Brandenburg and Joe Adkins."

Mrs. Vansant..."had a great love of flowers", and "was an important assistant to her husband when they established a green house in their yard six years ago (about 1930), there to raise seedlings and plants for other flower lovers and gardeners in Clinton. Their business had grown year by year and though its demands of time and strength increased, she never wearied, for growing things were always of intense interest to her...(Elnora) was soft spoken and kind. " (Clinton Eye Obituary, Oct. 22, 1936)

     William Samuel Bogart resided at Missouri; Moved with parents to Missouri in 1837/38.¹ William Samuel Bogart appeared on the 1850 census in the household of William Bogard at Cape Girardeau County, Missouri.³ William Samuel Bogart and Henry David Bogart were a farmers on 1 June 1850.³ William Samuel Bogart resided circa 1856 at Nebo, Pike County, Illinois.¹ As told by George Washington Bogart:
"William Samuel Bogart, my father, was born near Knoxville, Tennessee, January 31, 1832. He was married in 1858 to Mary Elizabeth Landis (sweetest and best of women) of English and French parentage. My father left Tennessee and settled in Cape Giradeau, near the town of that name. The Civil war broke out and being a "Union man" it became necessary for him to go farther north; he settled in LaClede County and joined the Union Army and afterwards returned to the farm. He was prosperous until my mother died in 1867, after which he seemed unsettled. spent a number of years in California. He finally returned to Clinton, Missouri where he died August 10, 1893."

     Mary Elizabeth Landis was French and once lived in Switzerland, according to family lore from Martha Dewey-Bogart.

As told by George Washington Bogart:
"My mother, whose maiden name was Landis, was born in 1840, in the month of May, near Knoxville. At the age of 20 was married to my father. Of this union was born three children: George, Laura and Benjamin. She was stricken with the measels and was an invalid the last two years of her life. She died on September 22, 1867 at the age of 27."

COMMENT: Conflict on death date for Mary Elizabeth Landis. Other researchers show March 3, 1916; GWB indicates 1867.

As told by Martha Dewey-Bogart:
"Kennesaw Mountain Landis was Grandfather's (G.W. Bogart) mother's maiden name...his autobiography..."a history of cousins"...(the Landis family) moved fom Switzerland to France to Switzerland through the centuries because of religious persecution he told me, and so K. M. Landis wrote. He visited the Bogart family cousins, named Landis...who lived in Clinton, Aunt Nell told me...trying to find relatives, but Grandad (G.W. Bogart) wasn't there to talk to them. If you ever find the book he wrote...I used to see it in libraries in the 1950's...but the library here took it out of circulation long ago...people forget."
