Avondale Primary School

Avondale primary school in 1954, 20 years after mum finished. It hadn't changed that much, just the primers. The yellow roofed buildings to the right of the picture where added. These are the classes that I remember.
Gt North Road is to the top of the photo, which was where the main entrance was. The school was in two elevations, main school in the middle of the picture was above the playing field, and the smaller school was above that.
The street at the bottom of the picture is Layard St with the main north railway line behind that. Racecourse Rd is to the right top of the photo, and the Pohutakawa trees around the front of the school gave the school a really nice feel. The trees in bloom in the summer time attracted the birds. We had fantails coming into the class room on numerous occasions.
