This is the house of Isaac's grandparents Isaac and Ann Clough. They lived here until about 1885. Isaac's grandmother Anne died while they where visiting in 1872 and his grandfather stayed here until he came out to be with his son in NZ for the last 3 years of his life.
The house was built about 1800. Early 1868/70 his granparents came into some money hence this house. Though he was a business man, woolstapler, this was a dealer in wool, who buys the wool grades it then sells it on to the manufacturer. Many of the large properties in Shrewsbury were built on the profits of the wool merchants.
The above map is of the city of Shrewsbury with the Severn running around the town. Nursery Cottage is not far from St Chads Church which is the circlular green image on the left of the map. This was the family church where Isaac's father John was christened in 1838.
The next photo is a aerial view of the town of Shrewsbury as it is today.
