The compiler initially states that just because this work looks official in no way means that it is unquestionably accurate. However, the point is that the farther back I go, the more difficult the task becomes. I can state with confidence that my information about myself and immediate family is accurate. I have my birth certificate, I was in the father's waiting room when my children were born, we yearly celebrate family birthdays and anniversary, etc. However, once I explore the records back into the nineteenth century I find that birth records are few and limited to old family bibles. Likewise, many marriages were not recorded other than in bibles. Some records that were made were misspelled or just recorded incorrectly and many have been destroyed in fires, wars, etc. For example, my grandfather, Ralph McCune Ohaver Sr., did not have a birth certificate, but his mother's sister attested to his birth. The record of this event appeared in his father's application for a pension for his service in the Civil War.
