The ODAM / ODOM family
first appears in the upper part of Greenville County, S.C. in the
early 1800's. John ODAM and three generations of descendants
are listed here. Most any ODOM family found in Greenville
County today are descended from John ODAM and Mary Polly DILL.
Don't be confused, ODAM,
ODOM, ODUM, OLDHAM and other spellings were often used by this
family through the generations. The ODAM spelling was the most
common for the all the families up until the early 1900's when all of
the Greenville families began to spell the name ODOM. The
families that moved to Texas and other points west continue to spell
the name ODAM to present generations.
The spellings listed here are
how they were found before 1900. Those persons listed below who lived
into the 1900's most always used the ODOM name.

Generation One
1. John1 Odam; born circa 1785, married Mary Polly Dill in Greenville, S.C. They lived on Packs Creek at the foot of Packs Mountain in the Highland Section of Greenville County.
Mary Polly Dill was born in 1785 in Caswell County, North Carolina, a daughter of Runnels Dill and Betsy unknown. She died after 1850 in Greenville, South Carolina.
Runnels Dill came to Greenville in the late 1780's. He settled on Packs Creek, was a Revolutionary War veteran and early member of Tyger Baptist Church.

Mary (Polly) A. Pennington was born on 22 Jul 1809 in Greenville, South Carolina, daughter of John Pennington and Ellen Douglas McDade. Mary died 19 Aug 1898 in Greenville, South Carolina, at age 89. She was buried in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Greer, Greenville, South Carolina.
