>31 James Odom ) In the name of
God amen, To ) I James Odom, being of sound mind, and
memory, But calling Last Will & Testament ) to mind the mortality of my body. Do make and ordain this
) my Last Will and Testament. That is to say I give my soul to God who gave it, and
my body I Recommend to the Earth to be buried in a decent way at the discretion of my Executors. And as touching Such worldly Estate as it has pleased God to bless me with I dispose
of it in the following manner and form (to wit Viz) After paying all my Just debts I give and bequeath unto my beloved
wife, Mary Odom, a part of my Land Commencing at the Creek below the Stables[?] running so as to intersect
the fence Running with said cross fence to the woods and to continue the same direc -tion to my West boundry line. Thence with
my line South to the south west corner of my Land. Thence East to the creek. Also, the little meadow lying East of the creek. All
of the Household & Kitchen furniture, One Womans Saddle, One bay mare called Sir
Charles, two cows & calves, fifteen head of Sheep, five head of first choice hogs & One sow &
pigs, One yoke of oxen & cart. Also two slaves Charity and Harry also all the farming Utensils all during her
Widowhood. I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter Maryann, a certain Gray Horse called Peter, One cow which is now
at Lemuel G. Koonce's, One Womans Saddle, One Bed, Bedstead & furniture, & three head of Ewes and at the death of my wife, if She Should Survive me,
I want the Slaves disposed of at the discretion of a majority of my Sons Then Living, Also the Land alloted to my wife to be sold to the
highest bidder with the rest of my Land or in such par -cels as the Executors may think advisable. The Land not alloted to
my wife to be rented Out Either privately or publicly, at the discretion of the Executors. The balance of my property not disposed of
as above named I want sold to the Highest bidder on a twelve months Credit, & if any of my sons purchase
any property at the sale The Executors is not to force the money out of them. But settle with Each
Lega -tee purchasing at the sale, by taking their receipt for their distributive part sold at such sale. Which shall be the
same to the Executors as if they paid the money - I wish the distributive part of the proceeds, of the first
& Last sale, of my property going to my daughter Drufina Koonce to be retained in the hands of my Executors whom I
wish to pay over to the said Drufina Koonce from five to ten dollars a year as her needseseties
requires if She Survives her husband L. G. Koonce, I want my Executors to pay over the balance
remaining in their hand to make her Equal with the rest of my heirs, if the said L. G. Koonce Should
Survive the said Drufina I want my Executors to pay to the Heirs of the body of the said Drufina Koonce,
as they become of age. Their prorata distrabution of the amount in the hand of my Executors, intended as
above named for my Daughter Drufina Koonce. On the proviso She Should Survive the said L. G. Koonce, The balance
>32 of the proceeds of the sales of my property I want to be divided Equally Between my
children (to wit) Wm. C. Odom, James S. Odom, Samuel C. Odom,
Benjamin F. Odom, Redding W. Odom, Shadrack J. Odom, Jehu M. Odom, &
Maryann Odom. And Lastly I do Chose and appoint my Sons William C. Odom & James S. Odom the
sole Executors of this my Last Will and Testament. Revoking all other gifts, Legacies, or bequeathments
by me made. Ratifying this my Last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I have
set my hand and affixed my seal this 3rd day of April 1843. (

Witnesses to the written paper writing purporting to be the Last Will and Testament of James Odom deceased.
Who being first sworn depose and says that he was acquainted with the said James Odom the
Testator in his life, and that he acknowledgd the same in his presence to be his Last Will &
Te. On the day it bears date. Also John W. Summar Who being first Sworn depose and
says that he was acquainted with the testator in his life. That he has saw him
write and that he believes the foregoing signature purporting to be his are genuine - Witness Rezin
Fowler Clerk of said County Court at office this first Monday in May A. D. 1843 =
