At the School-house, North-east Valley, on the 5th inst., Mrs A.G. Allan of a Daughter.

May 14 1859
Birth. At Waihola, on the 1st instant, the wife of Mr F. Hare of a Son.

Inquest. Dr. Hulme, coroner, and a jury, held an inquest Monday in the building used as the Government store, on view of the body of William Smith, late stoker on board the steamer "Pirate," was found dead in the engine-room about 5 o'clock on the previous morning. From the evidence given, it appeared that Smith had been drinking rather freely on the night before the fatal occurrence; and the second engineer going round to see all lights out, he assisted him to bed. The next morning the deceased was found lying dead at the foot of the engine-room steps. A post-mortem examination was held upon the body by Mr R. Burns, surgeon, who stated death to have been caused by concussion of the brain, produced by a fall. The jury returned a verdict of "accidental death on board the 'Pirate.' "

Died. At the residence of Mr Mercer, South Clutha, on the 25th ult, after a painful illness, Mr Andrew Archibald. Friends will please accept this intimation.
