She has brought about 90 passengers, of whom 36 are cabin, and the remainder second and steerage, besides a considerable cargo of merchandise - all for this place. Mrs John Hosty, Waikouaiti
There passed away on December 8, a very old identity in the person of Mr
John Hosty, who resided at Waikouaiti for the last 42 years. She came to New
Zealand in the ship Agra in 1858 with Mr Musgrove and family, and lived with
them for some time at Milton. She was married in 1867 at Waikouaiti. Her
husband survives her.
Mary
The NZSG Burial Index has John and Mary HOSTY buried in the Southern Dunedin cemetery. She was buried in 1909, age 79 years and he in 1912, age 82.
The NZSG Marriage Index has no record of a John HOSTY marriage, but it does have a John HASTY marrying a Mary DESMOND in 1867. From the list of passengers on the 1858 voyage of the "Agra" there appears to be only one Mary, and that is Mary DESMOND.
