The history of my family in New England starts with William Welch and his son Charles. William was born April, 23, 1700 some say he was born in Ireland others Wales and still others say he was from England. Where ever he was from he ended up in Charleston, RI, admitted as a freeman May 1, 1744. William was married to Catherine and he died March 10, 1786. Children of William and Catherine are: 1. Henry b. Oct. 1, 1735 in South Kingston RI, m. Nancy Rachel 2. William 3. Charles b. Mar. 30, 1739 d. 1813, m. Mary Taylor. 4. Mary, b. Jan. 29, 1741 5. John, b. May 8, 1746 (or 48), m. Lydia Burdick. His son Charles was born March 30, 1739 and in the late 1700 moved to Brookfield, Madison County, New York where he died in the great epidemic in 1813. Charles was married to Mary Taylor who was born, Aug. 23, 1743, and died 1813. She was the daug. of Job Taylor and Sally (Sarah) Munro. He brought along his wife and all but one of his 13 children. It is said that a number of them may have died in 1813, during the epidemic. At this point in time, I have not found much on the Welchs in the Rhode Island histories, but I am still looking. The New York Histories have nice things to say about the family. Children of Charles and Mary are: Amos and Edith' s Children are: Their daug. Nancy, married Isaac Terry. Nancy's sister Polly, married Isaac's brother, Charles. See direct line to my NY Terrys A bit about the Welch family |
