The history of my Taylor family in New England starts with Robert, who was born abt. 1620 and is believed to have came from Kent, in England He came to Sictuate, Mass, before 1646. He later removed to Newport, RI and settle on a farm located on Taylors point, now called Ochre Point in Newport. He was a ropemaker, and in 1673 was the keeper of the prison in Newport. He was married to Mary Hodges in Nov. 1646. Mary was the daug. of John Hodges and Mary Miller and was born in Charlestown RI, abt. 1628. Robert died Jan. 13, 1688 in Newport, Mary died in Little Compton, RI. This family and descendants were probably Quaker in their beliefs, as many of their marriage and births are recorded in RI Friends Record. The children of Robert and Mary are: I descend from their son John. John born in Newport in Jun. 1658, and died Jun. 9, 1747 in Little Compton RI. He married first to Abigail sometime before 1682. Abigail was born in 1660 and died in Little Compton, RI, Sept. 16, 1720. He next married Sarah who died 1764, also in Little Compton. It appears John had a good bit of land and money by the time he died. He remembered children, grandchildren and great grand children in his will. The children of John and Abigail are: I descend from their son John. John was born Jan. 7, 1694 in Little Compton RI. He married first to Sarah Horswell, who died Dec. 18, 1719. Sarah was the daug. of Peter and Elizabeth Horswell. John and Sarah had one daug. Elizabeth, born Jan. 5 1717 she married Richard Sission on Nov. 15, 1739. John married next on Dec. 29, 1719, Joanna Wilbor. Joanna was born Jun. 6, 1700 and was the daug. of Samuel Wilbore and Mary Potter. John's will is dated June 17, 1762 and was proved July. 12, 1762. He mentioned all his children but Samuel in his will, which was witnessed by William Taylor, and Daniel Wilbor (his son Job's father-in-law). Children of John and Joanna are: I descend from their son Job. Job was born in Little Compton Sept. 6, 1720. He married in Westerly RI on Nov. 18, 1742, to Sarah Munro. Sarah was the daug. of Daniel Munro and Dority. She was born Jun. 14, 1724 in Lexington Mass. Job died in Charlestown, RI in 1787. John's will is dated May 29, 1787 and proved July 2, 1787. In his will, Job mentions three sons, Nathan, Job and John, and daughters, Martha (Adams), Mary, Joanna, & Sarah ( no surnames given) and grandchildren; John Crandal, and 5 Adams children. Witnessed by John Irish (his brother-in-law), Benjamin Hoxie, Jonathan Crandal. Children of Job and Sarah are: |
