The history of my Spencer family in New England starts with Thomas son of Gerard and Alice Whitebread Spencer. He was christened, March 29, 1607 in Stotford, Bedford, England and immigrated in, 1633. He went first to Cambridge, then to Hartford in 1636/7. He was supposed to have come to New England with his three brothers, William, Michael, and Garrard Spencer. All of whom are on record in Cambridge before moving off to other towns.
He was first married to Anne Dorifall who came to New England on the Elizabeth in 1634, and was a maid servant to Wm. Coddington, they had three children. He held property in Cambridge as early as 1633, and lived on the easterly side of Elliot Street. His estate extended from Mount Auburn Street, to Winthrop Street, which he sold to Edmund Angier, when he removed to Hartford. In Hartford also referred to as Thomas Spencer, sergeant at arm. He served on a committee in 1644 and was a Chimney-viewer in 1649. He sat on the Petit jury, at various times from March 1649/50, - June 1662, Hartford constable in 1657/8 The Children of Thomas and Anne: The Children of Thomas and Sarah: |
