John Root - From various sources

The history of my family in New England starts with John Root, son of John Root (Roote) of Badby, Northamptonshire, England who was married to Mary Ann Russell. John Sr. was the son of Thomas Root and Ann Burrell. Mary Ann's parents were Francis and Ann (Forester) Russell also of Badby England.

John married Mary Kilbourn about 1640. Mary was dau. of Thomas and Frances (Moody) Kilbourn, who settled in Glastonbury, Ct. Mary Kilbourn was born in 1619, at Wood Ditton, England. John died Aug 1684 and Mary died in 1697.

There children were:

3. Thomas b. abt 1648, d. Aug 16, 1709 m. Mary Spencer
4. Mary b. abt 1650.
5. Stephen d. Jan 6, 1717.
6. Susannah m. 1683 Jos. Langdon. She d.. Dec 5, 1712.
7. Joseph d. Dec 18,1739.
8. Caleb d. June 10,1712.

Thomas Root, son of John Sen., of Farmington, Ct. was, born. abt. 1648, in Farmington, Ct. He and his brothers John and Samuel later removed to Westfield, Mass., He married three times, first to Mary Gridley, who d. 1673. Second on Oct. 7, 1675 to Mary Spencer, born may 18, 1655 and died. Nov 4, 1690. She was the daughter of Srgt. Thomas Spencer and his 2nd wife, Sarah Bearding daug. of Nathaniel Bearding. Third to Sarah Dumbleton, widow of Josiah Leonard, She d. Jan 3, 1694.

Thomas Root died Aug 16, 1709. I descend from Thomas and his second wife Mary Spencer through their son Timothy and his wife Sarah. Their daughter Sarah Root married John Abbe.

Children by first marriage:
1. Thomas b. Sept 1, 1671, d. Feb 25, 1689 at age 17.
2. Mary b. Oct 21, 1673, mar. Dec 12, 1700 Isaac Meecham.

Children by second marriage:
1. John b. Dec 25, 1676, d. Oct 1, 1744 at age 67.
2. Samuel b. Feb 16, 1679, d. Dec 8, 1712 at age 33.
3. Elizabeth b. Feb 16 1681, mar. Dec 20,1705 Nathaniel, son of Nathaniel and Hannah (Williams) Bancroft, b. Sept 23, 1680. She d. Jan 10, 1706.
4. Sarah b. July 27, 1683, mar. ____ Wright.
5. Timothy* b. Dec 3,1685, d. Nov. 2, 1743. m. to Sarah Pease in Enfield Con. on Nov. 17, 1710.
6. Joseph b. June 16, 1688, d. Feb. 10,1750 at age 61.

Children by third marriage:
1. Thankful (twin) b. Nov. 12, 1693.
2. Mercy (twin) b. Nov 12, 1693; prob. died young, as she is not mentioned in her father's will.

Timothy Root, son Thomas, of Farmington, Ct. Timothy was born, Dec. 3, 1685 in Westfield Con, and died Nov. 2, 1743, in Somers, Con. He married Sarah Pease, daughter of John and Margaret Adams Pease, Nov. 17, 1710, in Enfield Conn. Sarah was born Sept. 27, 1689, in Westfield, Mass. and died in Somers, 1750. Timothy served in the military and was a Captain.
