The history of my Lord family in New England starts with Thomas, born abt. 1595, his wife Dorothy Bird Lord, and their daug. Anna Lord who came from Towchester in England, April 29, 1635, in the Elizabeth and Ann. His father Richard and mother Joan. Thomas age is listed as 50 years in the ship records and Dorothy as 46 and Ann 14.
He went early to Hartford Conn. with Thomas Hooker and was among the first 127 original settlers there. His home lot in 1639 was on the highway, on the bank of the little River, now Wells Street. The date of Thomas' death is unknown. Dorothy's will was executed Feb. 8, 1669/70 and was sealed with a coat of arms which match those of Laward given in Burke's Armory. Children of Thomas and Dorothy are:

2.Thomas, b. abt. 1619, Mary
3. Ann, b. abt. 1621, m. Thomas Stanton
3. William, b. abt. 1623, m. Lydia
4. John, b. abt. 1625, m. Rebecca Bushnell, Adrean Baysey
5. Robert, b. abt. 1627, 1620, m. Rebecca
6. Aymie, b. abt. 1629, m. John Gilbert.
7. Dorothy, b. abt. 1631, m. John Ingersoll
One source I have come across says that Thomas Lord was a Semith.
Most references I have found are in conjunction with information about Thomas Stanton, who married his daug. Ann. They have described him as the first physician licensed to practice in Conn. by the general court order on June 30, 1652. The rates he could charge in Hartford, Wethersfield, Windsor, and other towns in this section were fixed in the license as 15 pounds, to be paid by the county. He would have been about 57 years at this time.
I have also found references where is son Thomas is called Dr. Thomas Lord. With the birth date above that would put him abt. 33 years old.
I descend from Thomas and Dorothy's daug. Ann.
Ann married Thomas Stanton, in 1637.
Thomas d. Dec. 2, 1677, aged 68 years. His will was probated in June, 1678. Ann survived him about eleven years, living with her daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Noyes, at Anguilla in Stonington, Conn.
Thomas Stanton along with William Chesebrough, Walter Palmer, Thomas Minor, and George Dennison, were the founders of Stonington (Southerton) Conn. Their decendants played leading roles in that town.
