Hartford Monument Cemetery - Hartford, Conn. |
|
I don't have the exact location for this monument and cemetery. |

We stopped by the cemetery & church on our way to Québec city in the fall of 2000. We did a little whirlwind tour of Wethersfield, Enfield, Hartford and Springfield. Everything was closed or just about to close as we pulled into each town. When we arrived in Hartford the church was closed and the gates to the yard were padlocked. My mate not as easily deterred as I, climbed over the fence and poked around for me. He not really knowing who to look for I nervously started yelling out names to him over the fence. Since this site is right in the middle of the city and it was only about 4:00 or 5:00 o'clock, I expected us to be arrested for trespassing at any minute. It was getting late and we still needed to get to Springfield so he stopped looking for individuals and took these photos of the monument. An update: We stopped here again in the summer of 2002 and tried again. This time we could get into the yard, but not the church. Took some photos of the Wyllys grave, it was the only family member I could find. This time around, I also noticed a monument to the African American of Harford and listing the Black Governors of Conn. I was really happy to see this. The only other references I have seen to them is in an old history of the city of Hartford. Parts of which can be viewed in another area of this site. |
