BEREA CEMETERY
by Alta (Creed) Webb
Berea Baptist Church was organized by the Rev James W Dudley who came to Audrain Co in 1857 from KY.  The church was built in 1868.  There is no record of membership but was served faithfully for the duration of the organization.  The church building was built with a four or five foot wooden wall down the middle to just beyond the seats.  The women sat on one side, and the men sat on the other.  Church services were held once a month and had no music with their singing.  In the summer they often had services lasting all day with a picnic lunch.  The church sets on the
south side of the cemetery facing the east.

In 1945, Elmer Albright paid $600 for the building.  After falling and breaking his leg, Elmer sold the remaining part to Gene Cline for $125.  Gene build his old house from this and gave his part of the seats to the Cedar Crest Baptist Camp Grounds, which is south of Santa Fe MO in Monroe Co.  The location of this cemetery is 9-12 miles north of  Mexico, a few miles north of Moline and around 10 miles southwest of Santa Fe.  It sets close to the boundary lines of Audrain Co and Monroe Co.  This cemetery is very well kept.  Many area descendants are buried there including several Creed descendants.  I have a complete list of those buried in the cemetery, if anyone is interested.  The following are some names that might be of interest to anyone researching Creeds in this area.

DID YOU KNOW?
by Vivian A Harding

PRIMOGENITURE - Seniority of birth and the right by law of the eldest son of a family (and of those who derive from him) to succeed, in cases of intestacy (i.e., no will) to the father's real estate to the absolute exclusion of the younger sons and the daughters.  After the Revolutionary War, Virginia legislators passed a bill in 1785 abolishing primogeniture.
