 WILKERSON ("WICK") LEMUEL CREED
by Alta (Creed) Webb
Wilkerson Creed was the fifth child of Elijah Creed Jr and Elizabeth (Beasley) Creed.  He was known as
Wick Creed and was born 23 Oct 1819, Lexington, Fayette Co KY.  He married Clarissa Marie Finks.  They
married in Monroe Co MO.  I have two different dates for their marriage.  I have a marriage entry from Salt Lake City that states they were married 17 Oct 1845.  I also found this same date in a reference book on Monroe Co marriages from 1831-1849.  I photocopied the marriage certificate from the marriage records at the Paris courthouse in Monroe Co.  It states:
"I William Dollard a justice of the peace for the county aforesaid do certify that I
solemised the wrights of matrimony between Wilkerson Creed & Clarissa M Finks
daughter of John Finks late of Virginia on the 11th day of Oct 1845. Given under
my hand this 22 day of Nov 1845."  William Dollar filed for records on 22 Nov 1845.
Clarissa was born 8 Sep 1824 in Madison Co VA.  She was the daughter of John Finks and Nancy
(Wilhoit) Finks. She died 6 Jul 1896 in Audrain Co MO. Wick died 7 Sep 1907 in Audrain Co MO.  They are
both buried in Berea Cemetery in Audrain Co MO, along with many other family members and friends.  They had 7 children.  All were born in MO.

        1.  Sarah Elizabeth ("Sis") Creed.  Sarah was born 21 Jun 1846 in Audrain Co.  She married Richard L
Robinson on 21 Nov 1872 in Audrain Co.  Sarah died 7 Dec 1925 in Audrain Co and is buried in Berea
Cemetery, along with her husband.

         2.  Mary Creed.  This child was probably born in 1848.  She is listed on the 1850 Monroe Co census
records at the age 2.  She does not show up in 1860.  She probably died young.  I have not  located where she is
buried.

         3.  Latricia Francis ("Pig") Creed.  She was probably born 1852-53, possibly 1856.  The 1860 Audrain
Co census shows she was 7 years old.  The 1870 census shows she was  18 years old.   In 1880 she was married
and the census shows she was 24 years old.  She married William L Mohn on 26 Apr 1874 in Audrain Co.  She
died 14 Jan 1907 in Audrain Co and is buried at Elmwood Cemetery, Mexico MO.   According to a cemetery list
at the Mexico Public Library, she was 45 years old at the time of her death.  This would make her being born
in 1852.  There is a William Mohn also buried there in the same lot and block.  I feel like this was her husband,
but I am not sure.

         4.  John Simeon ("Sim") Creed.  John was born 23 Aug 1854 according to his tombstone.  His death
certificate states birth as 23 Jul 1854 in Audrain Co.  He married Bettie J. Bozarth on 10 Mar 1880 in Monroe
Co.  John died on 13 Dec 1921 near Moline MO.  He is buried at Berea Cemetery along with his wife.

         5.  Susan L ("Pet") Creed.  Susan was born 1 Nov 1857 in Audrain Co according to her death
certificate and a cemetery list.  The census record for 1900 shows she was 33 years at that time and born in
1866.  She married Thomas H Davis on 28 Nov 1882 in Audrain Co.  He died 2 Nov 1901 and is buried at
Elmwood Cemetery in Mexico MO.   Susan then married Rueben Spottswood.  I do not  know the date.  She died
22 Jun 1919 in Mexico MO.   She is buried at Elmwood Cemetery.  I believe she is buried with her first husband.
They are buried  in the same lot and block.

         6.  James Washington ("Jim") Creed.   This is  my great-grandfather.  He was  better known as Jim.  Jim
was born 12 Jul 1860 in Audrain Co.  He married Rebecca Jane Allison on 18 Sep 1889 in Monroe Co.  Jim died
29 Dec 1935 at his son's home in Audrain Co.  He is buried at Berea Cemetery along with his wife.

        7.  Matilda Lee ("Mattie") Creed.  Mattie was  born around 1863-64.  She married Thomas Edward
Duty on 12 May 1897 in Audrain Co.  She died sometime after 1947-48.  She is buried at the Berea Cemetery.

This is all I know about the Wick Creed family so far.  I find it interesting that each member had a nickname.
