The following gravestone inscriptions have been abstracted form Vol. 5 of my memorial transcriptions.  The area covered by that Volume is north county Wexford.  The number following each abstract is the graveyard reference number in Vol. V.

 

BYRNE. Headstone.  Erected by John Byrne, Inch, to m.o. three children:  Joseph d Feb 1867, a 3; Michael Joseph d. Sep. 1868 and another Michael Joseph d. Oct 1876, a. 4.  The above John d. august 2nd 1883, a 43; daughter Anne in Religion Sister Petrenella d. Aug 1897; wife Lucy d. Oct 23rd 1912, a 80; daughter Mary Ellen d. July 27th 1918 a.48; Michael B. Byrne d. in New York; John Stanislaus d. in New York, 3rd Aug. 1933 a. 38; John d. 8th March 1938, a. 67.

This headstone is one of 16 to the Byrnes in this graveyard Castletown, St. Patrick’s Church, Roman Catholic. (179)

 

CONNICK.  Large granite cross with inscriptions on two panels:

Upper.   Erected by Andrew Connick and the Revd. Patrick Connick of New York City, U.S.A.

Lower.  To m.o. their father Patrick, d. 1st July 1854 a. 37, their mother Mary d. 12th Jan 1859 a. 39; sister Mary d. 2nd July 1851 a 7; brother James A. d. 29th  May 1876 a. 26 Camolin, church of Immaculate Conception, Roman Catholic. (177)

 

O’BRIEN. Headstone.  Erected by Charles O’Brien of Albany, N.Y. America late of Cullenogue to m.o. parents James d. 30th March 1864 a. 74; Bridget d. 17th Sept. 1868 a. 69; sisters Ellen and Mary d. young; James D. d. 5th March 1945 a. 65.  Castletown Roman Catholics.  (179)

 

O’NEILE. Headstone.  Erected by Owen O’Neile Scarnagh to m.o. wife Eliza d. Mar. 16th 1879 a. 72; son Christopher d. Mar. 13th 1879 a. 30; Edward d. in New York, U.S.A. 2nd Feb 1963; Owen O’Neile d. 22nd Jan. 1965; Bridget O’Neill d. 1st April 1971; Catherine O’Neill d. 7th Aug. 1972.  Castletown Roman Catholic. REDMOND.  Headstone.  Erected by James Redmond of New York whilst on a brief visit to his native country in order to perpetuate the m.o. father Thomas of Corah d. 10th May 1836 a. 52; mother Anne d. 16th June 1822 a. 54.  This is one of 7 memorials to the Redmond families in this old graveyard.  Ferns Old, possible Roman Catholic.  (186)
