He married ELIZABETH NORMAN 1785.

His will was dated February 12, 1850, and was probated March 3, 1851 in Hall County, Georgia.

At the time of the will JOEL Sr. and ELIZABETH had been married for 65 years.

The family moved from South Carolina to Georgia about 1800.

JOEL and ELIZABETH lived on lot 117, 8th district in Hall County, Ga.

1. ELIJAH BENNETT, son of JOEL Sr. and ELIZABETH NORMAN BENNETT, was born in South Carolina in 1790. Approximately 1810 he married EDNY PRUITT( daughter of Lenny, and we think, Daniel Pruitt). EDNY was born in 1794, died November 229 1875. She was born in South Carolina and is buried at Hopewell Cemetery, Forsyth County, Georgia. Lenny lived with her daughter in Forsyth Co. in 1850.

  1. Lemuel born December 129 1814. In 1835 he married Lucinda (Norris) (Hendrix) and later married Mary Vickery.
  2. Joel was born January 30, 1818 in South Carolina, died July 14 1903. About 1838 he married Susannah Hendrix who was born in l824. Joel was buried at Bethel Methodist Cemetery, Dawson Co.,Ga.
  3. Malinda Bennett, born September 20, 1821.
  4. Lucinda Bennett, born October 15, 1823.
  5. Berry, born February 12, 1825, Hall County, Georgia. He married Emily Martin who was born in 1829. Berry is buried at Crossroads Cemetery, Forsyth County, Georgia.Emily buried same cemetery.
  6. Elisha, born 1828, in Georgia, married Sarah J. Rowland who was born in South Carolina in 1831. Elisha was in Forsyth Co., Ga. on 1850 census, Pickens Co., Ga. on 1860 census. He was on the March 4, 1862 muster roll, Pickens County Militia.
  7. RANSOM was born March 15, 1830 in Georgia, Hall or Forsyth County, died July 19, 1864. Married Matilda Rowland in December 14, 1848. She was born December 5, 1828 in S. C. and died August 11, 1910.

    RANSOM BENNETT, son of ELIJAH and EDNY PRUITT BENNETT, was born March 15, 1830, in Hall or Forsyth County, Georgia, died July 19, 1864. He and MATILDA married December 14, 1848. MATILDA was born December 5. 1828 and died Auguot 11, 1910. both are buried in the Jerusalem Baptist Church Cometery, with tombstones still legible, Pickens County, Georgia.  
    Ransom moved from Forsyth County,, Georgia to Pickens County, Georgia sometime between 1850 and 1860 - On 1850 census in Forsyth, 1860 census in Pickens. He is listed on the March 4, 1862 Muster Roll, Pickens County Militia, and during The War Between The States served with Co L, 36th Regtl Georgia Volunteer Infantry, with Army of Tennessee. Shortly after coming home on leave from the battle area he died. The marriage of RANSOM and MATILDA is recorded in Forsyth County, Georgia, Book A.  page 296   & The 1880 Pickens County census lists MATILDA and her daughter, NANCY K   as-members of the same household as MATILDA'S son and NANCY'S brother, WILLIAM WALTER BENNETT and his wife MARTHA CHILDERS BENNERT.

      WILLIAM WALTER BENNETT, son of RANSOM and MATILDA ROWLAND BENNETT, was born Mav 12, 1854  probably in Forsyth County, Georgia, and died January 28, 1898 in Pickens County, Georgia from fever and the adverse effect of medicines administered at the time.  He married MARTHA CHILDERS August 27, 1874. MARTHA was born March 13, 1856 and died February 28, 1939. Both are buried in the Jerusalem Baptist Church Cemetery, Pickens County, Georgia.

       ADALINE BENNEIT was born May 29, 1875 and died April 13, 1928. Married MILTON L. EVANS October 5. 1892. MILTON born 1870 and died December 8. 1918, Both are buried at .Jerusalem Cemetery, Pickens County, Georgia.                 Gradin, Lindsey, Hoyt, Doyle, Adalie, and Herman.
      HENRY RANSOM BENNETT was born October 21, 1876 and died October  5, 1964. Married LEMMER (LEMMA) STRIPLIN October 15, 1899 at Salacoa,  Georgia. (Mariage performed by Nuton (Newton) Hightower in the presence of John and Julia Striplin White, sister of Lemmer). LEMMER (LEMMA) born November, 4, 1879 in Cherokee County, Georgia and died April 14, 1945 Both buried East View Cemetery, Adairsvilleg Georgia.          Clemmon A., Ruby, Edgar Byron.  (Molene March 22, 1904 - April 5, 1904)
      CANZADA BENNETT was born September 15, 1878 and died October 12, 1958. Married JOHN PEITIT December 18, 1898.  JOHN was born November 25, 1879 and died August 27, 1944. Both buried Cartersville, Georgia Cemetery.(Oak Hill).            Lillie,  Clemmie, and Mattie Lou.
      WILLIAM ANDREW BENNETT was born April 27, 1880 and died October 12, 1926. Married EVA LANDRUM. EVA born January 29, 1897 died February 2, 1958. Both buried at East View Cemetery, Adairsvllle, Georgia. (EVA LANDRUM BENNETT ANDERSON).      Clay, Betty, Doris.
      ROBERT TILMON (TILLMAN) BENNENT was born March 2. 1881 and died July 29, 1955. Married DELIA PRESLEY December 1903. DELIA born February 29 1880 and died May 27, 1975. Both buried Jerusalem Cemetery, Pickens County, Georgia.         Herbert, Pearl, Clinton, Boyd, Jewell and Opal.
      LINCY BENNETT was born January 29, 1884 and died July 18, 1973.

       CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS BENNETT was born May 31, 1888 and died . April 7. 1943.  Married MATTIE FREEMAN October 22, 1911. MATTIE born February 21, 1888 and died May 14, 1916. Both buried at Antioch Church Cemetery, Talking Rock, Georgia.       Grady Columbus
       ELIZABETH BENNETT was born March 20, 1890 and died November 30, 1932. Married WILLIAM SAMUEL PENDLEY November 29, 1908. Both buried at Jerusalem Cemetery, Pickens County, Georgia. WILLIAM born July 4. 1889 and died December 5, 1969.      Onalee, Ethel, Denver, and Hollis.
      HILBURN BENNETT (Twin)  was born February 18, 1892 and died April 19, 1935. Married FLORENCE STRIPLIN. FLORENCE was born December 20, 1895 and died November 21, 1937. Both buried at Jerusalrm Cemetery, Pickens County, Georgia.  FLORENCE and LEMMER (LDM) STRIPLIN BENNETT were half-sisters, both born in Cherokee County, Georgia, adjacent to the Pickens-Cherokee boundry line.                    Thurmon, Harold, Marcelle, and Eugene.
      WILBURN BENNETT (Twin)    was born February 18, 1892 and died. itay, 16 1954. Married STELLA MEDLIN May 29 1915. STELLA was born November 23, 1895. WILBURN buried at Jerusalem Cemetery, Pickens County, Georgia. STELLA living as of August 1982.         Lowell E.,  Glenn, Ruth, and Mark.
      LEMMER BENNETT was born December 9, 1894. Married BURON MEDLIN August 10, 1910. BURON was born October 30, 1888 and died November 6. 1971. He in buried at Jerusalem Cemetery, Pickens County, Georgia.            Lona Mae, Doyle, Starling, Marie, Faye, and Loy.
      (At this writing, 1982, LEMMER is the only child of WILLIAM WALTER and MARTHA CHILDERS BENNETT still living.)

      HENRY RANSOM BENNETT, son of WILLIAM WALTER and MARTHA CHILDERS BENNETT, was born in Pickens County, Georgia, October 21, 1876 and died in Gordon County, Calhoung, Georgia, October 5, 1964. Married LEMMER (LEMMA) STRIPLIN October 15, 1899. LEMMER (LEMMA) born November 4,  1879 and died April 14, 1945 in Gordon County, Georgia. Both are buried at East View Cemetery, Adairsville, Georgia.
      (HENRY RANSOM was 21 years old and attending school at Fairmount, Georgia when his father died. Being the oldest boy, one girl older, it was necessary for him to return home and help make a living for his mother and eleven (11) other children the oldest girl having already married. He regretted having to leave school and expressed many times his fascination for mathematics which Professor Sharp taught at Fairmount. The cause of death for both Henry Ransom and Lemmer (Lemma) was cancer.)
