Curt lived on the same road as we d id (N. Montgomery County Line Rd.) as far back as I can remember and I kn ow Dad bought our property from him. I believe one of his daughters is st ill living there. Curtis married Lyda Penny (b. 1897, OH d. 14 Jul 1965 T roy, Miami Co, OH) about 1917. I’ve lost track of how may children they h ad (it always seemed like a lot!). The only one I knew well was the olde st Carl (b. 28 Dec 1918 d. 10 Oct 1997). The 1930 census lists Earl H., J ohn Clarence Jr., Pauline L, Dorothy H, and Robert E. I know Curt is no l onger living but I haven’t been able to find a death date. Edward W. Kiser enjoys and extended aquaintance throughout Clark County, p articularly in Moorefield Township, where he was born May 15, 185 0. He is a man of sterling integrity, whose word is considered as go od as his bond, and who manifests the interest which all intelligent men s hould take in the material, intellectual and maoral good of the communit y. He owns and occupies on hundred and sixty acres of land on section 3 3, the estate being carefully and intelligenlty tilled and bearing adequa te improvements. A comparatively young man, Mr. Kiser is succedding in wo rdly affairs, and is able to surround his family with all the comfor st of life, besides making provision for his declining years. Mr. kiser is descended from old Virginia families, being the son of Micha el M. and Sarah (Wise) Kiser, of the Old Dominion. His father was bo rn in Rockinham County near the close of the last century, and rear ed to manhood in his native State, where he was married. He emigrat ed to Ohio in all probability in the '20's, settling on the farm now occupied by our subject. The la nd of which he took possession was not cleared, and he placed it in a till able condition, doing much of the labor which belongs to pioneer lif e. He put up a log house, in which his family was sheltered for many year s, the structure being enlarged and improved some years after it was buil t. In it he passed away July 4, 1869, his wife surviving him until 187 4. The hospitality of the couple was well known, and the honesty and lib erality which characterized the husband gained him the respect of all w ho enjoyed his acquaintance. His industry and perseverance were reward ed by the accumulation of an estate valued at about $12,000. During the C ivil War he was a member of the Home Guards at Bellefontaine, in which to wn he resided for three years. The balance of the time, during which he w as a citizen of Ohio, he spent on the farm. His political adherence was g iven to the Republican party. He was the father of a large family, of wh om the only survivors are: Mary A., Mrs. Baker, a widow, whose ho me is in Illinois; and he of whom we write.
Edward Kiser received his early instruction in the public and select schoo ls of this county, and acquired a good practical education therein, althou gh he had not the opportunity of attending the higher institutions of lear ning. He has been a life-long farmer, and is successfully pursuing his ch osen calling. In politics, he is a stanch Republican. He is now servi ng as School Director in his district, performing the duties of that offi ce in a satisfactory manner. The marriage of Mr. Kiser and Mrs. Mary C. Brandle took place September 1 5, 1 1875, and has been blessed by the birth of four children, who were named respectively: William, Elva, Bessie and Charles. Mrs. Kiser is a daught er of landron and Margaret Bumcrots, now of this county but formerly of Virginia . Her first husband was John Brandle, of the county, to whom she bore two children-Ada, the wife of Robert Wilson, and Emma, wife of James Morse, bo th living in Springfield.

The identifies of Jacob and Elizabeth's children are not yet proven. Son J acob, his wife Phebe, and daughter Rebecca, appear in the 1850 census in J acob the elder's household, and appear to be the same family appeari ng in Mason County, Illinois.
John C. also moved to Mason County, Illinois, and the presumption th at he is brother to Jacob Henry is a logical one.
Rosannah is the most problematic of the three "known" names. However, t he dates and locations fit well, and there is no other potential parent kn own in Champaign County in the same time frame.

History of Champaign Co, OH pg MEXICAN WAR.
The war with Mexico made no great stir among the people of Champaign, thou gh the progress of the victorious troops from Vera Cruz to Mexico was hail ed with an enthusiasm similar to that over the country generally. There w as a sentiment very widely prevalent that the war was unnecessary, and th at the United States, strong in its resources, ought not to have attack ed a sister Republic; but, being in, the patriotism of the county was f or the country, right or wrong. The newspapers of the county do not retu rn any names of the volunteer soldiery who were at Buena Vista, the heigh ts of Monterey, or the storming of Chapultepec, but a green memory has ke pt in remembrance the names of Evan Jenkins, Oliver Jenkins. Frank Jenkin s, Thomas Lowe, Isaac N. Pierce, George Hoover, Thomas Connerton, Thomas W ilson, Stephen Hagerbaugh, George Seibert, Finley Dunham, Robert Wallac e, John Needler and Johnson K. Putman-all of whom were from Champaign, w ho volunteered in the Army of the Rio Grande. To these may be added the na me of Gatch Ambrose, youngest son of Frederick Ambrose, whose name has app eared in these pages as one of the oldest pioneers. Young Ambrose was engi neer on a Mississippi River steamboat, which he left for the war. Passed s afely through its dangers; afterward joined the ill-starred expediti on of Walker, "the gray-eyed man of destiny," and, with other young men de ceived into participation in the Nicaraguan expedition, paid the penalty w ith his life.

Johann Frederick was baptised in 1741 either in PA or MD he is the s on of Mathis and Catherine (Spongh) AMBROSE. Mathis is one of the founde rs of the churches in the Thurmont, MD area. It is his land that the Appl es Church is built and he is buried. He came to America in 1732 through Ph iledelphia. His stone is writen in German. Liz Stitley stitree@webtv.net
Following from Ancestry World Tree There were AMBROSES in the Maryland/Virginia area as early as 1635, but th ey appear to have been English. This Henry AMBROSE was definitely German a nd probably a first or second generation immigrant as German appears to ha ve been the family's first language. The Morgan County Historical Socie ty has a prayer book which belonged to Henry's son, Mathias. His notatio ns are written in English, but the book was printed in German. The fami ly belonged to the United Brethren Church and the German language dominat ed in that General Conference until 1833.Many researchers have thought Wil liam Henry was the son of Mathias (1696-1784), who immigrated from Germa ny in 1732; settled in the Monocacy area in Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania a nd later moved near Thurmont, in Frederick County, Maryland. Contributi ng to the confusion was the German naming practice whereby a child's fir st given name was a baptismal, religious name; and the second or middle na me was the secular, "call" name by which the child was known both in the f amily and the community. Thus, William Henry (Wilhelm Heinrich?) and Mathi as' son, Augustus Heinrich, both appear in contemporary records simp ly as "Henry Ambrose".Augustus Heinrich was named the son of Mathias wh en he was deeded a part of "Arnold's Chance" by his father in 1759. Wh en he sold this land in 1761, his wife was shown as Mary Eve. In Mar ch of 1771, he sold his portion of "Arnold's Delight" to his brothers, Phi lip, Jacob, and Mathias. Again, his wife is shown as Mary Eve. Most resear chers indicate William Henry was married to Sarah during this same perio d. I have found no primary source to support this assertion. However, a He nry Ambrose of Hampshire County, Virginia, and his wife Sarah sold a 50 ac re parcel located on Sleepy Creek in August of 1815, almost four years aft er Henry Senior's death. Presumably this is Henry Junior. Could an earli er researcher have mistakenly assumed this deed was executed by Henry Seni or? In fact, we have no proof that William Henry was born in 1740, or indee d, that his name was "William" Henry.Curiously, Mathias' son, Augustus Hei nrich, disappears from the records of Frederick County after his sale of " Arnold's Delight" in 1771. Is it coincidence that William Henry first appe ars in the records in Berkley County, Virginia, in 1772? At this poin t, we still have many more questions than answers, and any relationsh ip to Mathias remains unproven. On 17 Nov 1772, our Henry AMBROSE signed t he lease (for 5s.), and purchased the following day (for £375 Pennsylvan ia currency), 400 acres on the middle branch of Sleepy Creek in Berkeley C o., Virginia. This is near present day Berkeley Springs in Morgan Count y, West Virginia. Formerly called Bath, it was called Medicine Sprin gs on a map drawn in 1747 by Thomas Jefferson's father. The 74 degree mine ral water flowing from Warm Springs Ridge drew Indians to this site long b efore colonial settlers arrived; and the State Park Service operates a s pa there today. In 1772 it was located in Berkeley County, Virginia, which included that p art of old Frederick Co., Virginia, which is now Berkeley County, West Vir ginia, plus a western portion of what is present-day Morgan County, West V irginia. Morgan County was not formed until 1820, and West Virginia was fo rmed in 1861 when Virginia seceded from the Union and the counties of west ern Virginia refused to secede and organized a separate government support ing the Union. The deed refers to Henry Ambrose "of the County of Berkel ey and the Colony of Virginia". Thus, we know that Henry was living in th is area of Virginia prior to his purchase. His son, William, indicat ed on the 1850 census that he was born in Maryland, so they must have mov ed sometime in 1771 or early 1772. Henry AMBROSE is found on the Rent Rol ls of Berkeley Dist., Virginia, in 1772, between 1774 and 1781 and aga in in 1787. He is also listed in Land Owners, 1st Battalion, Berkeley, Vir ginia, between 1784 and 1794; except for 1786 when only the 2nd Battali on was listed. According to Cecil Ray Ambrose, the farm owned by Hen ry at the time of his death was "located on the Old Frederick grade (now M organ-Frederick grade) and as of 1980 belonged to Paul Myers.Henry may ha ve served in the Revolutionary War. The records of his service have been l ost; but according to Cecil Ambrose [1975] the military pension file for p rivate Michael WIDMYER [National Archives No. S-11857] contains a depositi on by Mathias AMBROSE in which he states that "his father, Henry AMBROS E, was a Captain in the Berkeley Co., Virginia, Militia in which Michael W IDMYER was a private; that Mathias' brother and Michael WIDMYER were draft ed into the Army from the Militia Company in September 1780; and that h is brother was subsequently killed at the Battle of Guilford Co., North Ca rolina (50 killed on 15 Mar 1781)". Cecil Ambrose thought this referr ed to Mathias’ brother, Peter. But Peter, if born in 1772, would have be en too young to have served in the Militia.Another pension application fi le for Jesse WALLER (S-4719), states that he was a resident of Berkeley Co unty when he entered the service, that he served under Captain AMBROSE ( as well as several others); and that after rendezvousing at Martinsburg h, Virginia, he served at Fort McIntosh until his term expired in Februa ry 1779.Family legend says Henry was present at the surrender at Yorktow n. On October 19, 1781, Charles Lord Cornwallis surrendered at Yorktown, V irginia, to General George Washington, thereby ending the War for Independ ence. Henry did provide supplies to the Army of the State of Virginia duri ng the war. Public Service Certificate No. 414 dated 6 Feb 1781 is a recei pt to Henry AMBROSE and five of his neighbors for 16-1/2 bushels, 6 quar ts of wheat; for which they are to be paid "333 pounds, 15 shillings curre nt Money".The family was intimately involved with the establishment of t he United Brethren, and later the Methodist Church in this country. In 196 3, Fred T. Newbraugh, a church historian, referred to the Berkeley ar ea as "a crossroads for the Christian soldiers going to and from the West ". One of the early Bishops of the United Brethren Church was Rev. Christi an Newcomer, whose journal (translated from the German) mentions the Ambro ses:July 25, 1799 - went to Ambroses where a two day meeting had been appo inted.Aug 7 1800 - began a meeting on Sleepy Creek which lasted through Su nday. Never have I witnessed the power of God in so great a degree amo ng so many people. Meeting was protracted till late at night and many fou nd peace. Next day crowds greater, Lutherans, Presbyterians, Mennonites, B aptists and Methodists all drew near the Lord's table. Aug 9, 1800 - Our meeting [was] at Sleepy Creek. Brother Geeting follow ed me. We stayed the night with brother Ambrose. Aug 30, 1811 - I reached the place of meeting, Crum, Duckwall and Reiser w ere there. Christian Crum spoke first. At night we had a meeting at Ambros es. A separate building, to be used only for church services, was a luxury the se early settlers could not afford. Services were held in a member's hom e. The Ministers were itinerant. They traveled from one congregation to t he next and several months might pass before they returned. When a chur ch was finally built, it was often shared by several congregations of diff erent faiths.Great meetings were held once and sometimes twice a year. Usu ally, someone would have a barn which could accommodate the huge crowds, w ho would travel for miles to hear famous preachers. "The preaching was pos itive and dogmatic. 'Thus saith the Lord' settled all questions. After goi ng over the circuit and preaching gratuitously, they [the preachers] we nt home. They built no houses of worship, gave no attention to the traini ng of the young, set in motion no working activities, and collected no mon ey, unless for the benefit of the poor. So the preacher came, preached, a nd went home, and he paid his own way. He worked on his farm. All the peop le had to do was to hear the preacher, feed him and his horse, and wait ti ll he came again."I have not found mention of William Henry as a lay preac her, but it would be surprising if he were not. At least one son, two gran dsons, and one great grandson are known to be ordained ministers; and ma ny descendants and in-laws were lay preachers. The Ambrose Chapel in Berke ley Springs is built on land which Henry deeded to his son, William, and o thers "for the erection of a free meeting house where any minister of t he Gospel of Jesus Christ might preach his doctrine". The present Chap el is said to be the oldest church in Morgan County and has recently (199 9) been restored. It was built in 1851, near where a much older church h ad stood. According to Cecil Ambrose, the church is built on land which w as originally a part of the 400 acres purchased by Henry in 1772. He divid ed this land among his children about 1797 and set aside one acre for a Fr ee Meeting House. Mathias purchased all the other's shares, and after h is death, the 400 acre parcel was advertised for sale "with the excepti on of one acre reserved for a Meeting House".The named heirs in the esta te of Henry AMBROSE, were sons Mathias and William, and daughters Margar et RIZER and Catherine CLAUVER. He died intestate, so why his other childr en were not named as heirs in the Chancery Court proceedings is not explai ned. At least six of the eight others were probably still living at the ti me of his death. His son-in-law, George RIZER, was named administrat or of his estate. Henry died owing a bond of £300 to Susanna B. STOR M. In September 1814, Susanna obtained a judgment against the estate for £ 150, plus interest, plus $15.51 costs. George RIZER filed an accou nt on 13 May 1815 showing a balance of personal property of 257 dollars a nd 2-1/2 cents. Since the estate had insufficient (cash) funds to pay t he judgment, Mathias paid Susanna $200, for which sum, Susanna signed an a cquittance of all claims and demands against the estate. At the time of h is death, Henry owned 142 acres on the South Fork of Sleepy Creek. It is n ot clear why this land was not sold to close the estate. Perhaps Henry's w idow, Sarah, was still living and wished to stay on this land. Perhaps the re was difficulty getting releases from William and Catherine, who had bo th moved to Ohio. In any event, after Mathias' death in 1842, his estate m ade application to force the sale of the 142 acres, to repay the $200 adva nced to Henry's estate by Mathias. The sale was ordered and the land was s old at Commissioner's auction on 25 Mar 1844. An interesting, but unexplai ned sidelight to these proceedings, is that according to the 1787 Cens us of Virginia - Berkeley County Tax List A, Henry AMBROSE paid the tax es for himself, son Mathias, and a "P. STORM". 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Birth: 1740 Note: Several IGI references say he was born in Maryland; but none list pa rents for him, so this may not be correct. "Graveyards of Morgan County" i ndicate his birthdate was 1740, but state the information is from "other s ources". His tombstone has not been found. 8 9 Death: 1 NOV 1811 in Berkeley County, Virginia 10 11 Burial: Ambrose Chapel Cem., so of Berkeley Springs, Morgan County, West V irginia 12 Census: 1810 Berkeley County, Virginia Note: One couple, over 45, is presumably Henry Senior and his wife. Sin ce all the other children are accounted for, I believe the second coupl e, 26-45, is Henry Junior and his wife, Sarah. This would explain the chil dren listed: one male and two females under 10, and one female 10-16. Anot her female is shown as 16-26. She is unexplained. The household includ ed no slaves. 13 Source Contact: Pat Asher Home Page: Pat's Ambrose Genealogy pasher@ee .net
According to "Howe's Historical Collection of Ohio" by Henry Howe, he w as one of the first settlers in Champaign County. The History of Champai gn County says he came to Ohio in 1799. He settled on the Mad River, in wh at later became Champaign County. When Urbana was later laid out, he mov ed to town and started a pottery. He also engaged in the mercantile busine ss, was quite active in local politics, and served as one of the early she riffs of the county, from 1821 to 1825 and 1833 to 1847. HISTORY OF CHAMPAIGN COUNTY. - 585 GOSHEN TOWNSHIP. BY W. H. Beers The flouring-mill now called Hunter's Mill was built in 1823 by Jonathan C heney.
876 - BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES. GOSHEN TOWNSHIP . JONATHAN CHENEY (deceased). To the subject of this sketch we are pleas ed to accord a place in the biographical album of this work. He was bo rn in August, 1816, in Union Township, Champaign Co., and was prominent ly identified with the history of the county. As far back as his patern al ancestors can be traced, they inhabited the Isle of Man. In about 177 0, Thomas Cheney and four sons-Thomas, William, Joseph and Ebenezer-emigra ted from the Isle of Man to America, locating in Massachusetts. The fath er and three sons were engaged in the battle of Bunker Hill, in which t he former, then a man of about 70 summers, was killed by a chain-shot. Tho mas, Jr., emigrated to Harrison Co., Va., where he reared a family of so ns and daughters, four sons of whom-William, Benjamin (the father of our s ubject), Jona than and Ebenezer-became pioneers to Champaign Co. Benjam in was married to Sarah Cochran, a native, also, of Harrison Co., Va., fr om where they immediately emigrate," to Ohio, locating in Champaign C o. in about 1808. The journey was made on horseback, bringing all their me ager earthly possessions with them. Benjamin inherited nothing but an hone st name, good business habits and a vigorous intellect. His cabin was erec ted in the wilderness of Union Township, where his industry and perseveran ce soon carved out a farm and home. He was conspicuously identified with t he early political as well as pioneer history of the county. He served f or a number of years as Justice of the Peace, and his proceedings in his o fficial capacity are to be found among the early records of the count y. As a member of the State Legislature for twelve years, he discharged h is duties with fidelity and commendable zeal. He was possessed of more th an ordinary business sagacity, and accumulated, before his death, a lar ge landed estate, consisting of nearly 2,000 acres. He never moved from h is first location, his death occurring there in 1834, and that of his wi fe and one son about the same time, all dying of typhoid fever. In his dea th, the community recognized the loss of a valuable citizen and useful mem ber of society. He had seven sons and one daughter, of whom our subject w as the fifth child. His entire life was passed upon the farm on which he w as born. He was early taught the art and dignity of farming, and, as regar ds integrity, business habits and a vigorous intellect, his father's mant le fell upon him. In his life, he was honored as a good and useful memb er of society, ever found interested in whatever pertained to the common w elfare. He filled with the strictest integrity numerous offices of honor a nd trust; was two years a member of the State Legislature, and for twel ve or fifteen years Justice of the Peace. He possessed many sterling chara cteristics, his devotion to the right being fearless. His life was given p rincipally to farming and stock-raising. In 1836, he married Rachel, daugh ter of John W. and Eleanor (Duval) Williams, by whom be had eight sons a nd three daughters; one son and two daughters deceased. He died March 6, 1 864. lamented by all who knew him. His son, J. H. Cheney, was born De c. 1, 1839, in Union Township; was reared on a farm, and has made farmi ng his life occupation. Aug. 14, 1860, he married Beatrice Tullis, a nati ve of Goshen Township, and a descendant of early settlers; be lived in Uni on and Goshen Townships till about five years ago, when he moved to his pr esent place in Mechanicsburg. He served a time in the late civil war. M r. and Mrs. Cheney have three sons and one daughter.

JOSIAH G. TALBOT, hats and caps. Mr. Talbot belongs to one of the old fami lies of Urbana. He is the son of Josiah G. Talbot, who was a native of Mar yland, and served as a Lieutenant in the war of 1812. He was a hatter a nd furrier, and removed from Xenia to Urbana, in 1823, for the purpo se of getting nearer the fur supply, and continued in business here unt il his decease, in 1854. His wife was a daughter of Capt. Forsythe, of Can ada. She could speak the French, English and Indian tongues. She once din ed with Tecumseh an Little Turtle at Ft. Wayne, and was present at Hull 's surrender, the Captain who was then in command having married her on ly sis ter. She afterward came to Dayton, where she met Lieut. Talbot. T he subject of this sketch was born April 26, 1828, while his mother, wi th other members of the family, was visiting her people at Thames, Canad a. He has been occupied in merchandising since 1851, with the excepti on of six years spent in farming. He engaged in the hat and cap busine ss in 1877, which business descended from his father through the han ds of several members of the family. The store is located at No. 35 Monume nt Square, and is the only exclusively hat and cap establishment in the ci ty. He married, in 1860, Mrs. Lavina Lapham, by whom he has three childre n, one son and two daughters. Ila is a member of the Grace Methodist Episc opal Church, and was the organizer of the Howard-Weaver Mission in 1866, a nd has had charge of it since. Mr. Talbot is an earnest Christian worker a nd an estimable and worthy citizen.
Ohio Democrat 9/13/1855 (CCGS Newsletter Spring 1992 pg39) Died on the morning of the 12th inst, after protracted suffering, from ast hma, Capt Josiah G Talbott in the 71st year of his age. And thus has pass ed from among us, another of the venerable pioneers of the west, whose liv es have been devoted to our protection, our prosperity and happiness and w hose memories will be cherished throughout time. The deceased was born ne ar Fredericktown, Maryland on the 25th day of August in the year 1785, a nd with the care and of pious parents was, in his infancy, baptized in t he methodist Episcopal Church at the City of Baltimore, by the hands of t he Rev John Wesley. At the age of nine years, he was taken with the fami ly of his uncle, ----Groves, to the first settlement of the village of She ppardstown, Kentucky, where he remained , until arriving at years of matur ity, he determined upon the new state of Ohio as his future home, and so me time before the war of 1812, settled at Xenia, in Green County. Upon t he breaking of the war, he entered the service in the defense of his count ry, and his meritorious conduct at once secured for him the appointme nt of 1st Lieutenant, in a company which was afterwards attached to the re giment of militia commanded by his brother, Col Richard Talbott, with wh om he served actively until the close of the war. The only active engageme nt in which he was permitted to take part, was at Fort Defiance - his fi ne personal appearance, his savity of manner, and his gentlemanly and hono rable bearing having pointed him out to the superior officers, as valuab le in the recruiting service; and his great success and efficiency in th at department, caused him to be detained in that service until peace was d eclared, and further recruits were no longer needed. After the strugg le of his country was over, he returned to his home, and remained quiet ly in the pursuit of his trade, as a hatter, until the close of the year 1 815. He formed a matrimonial alliance at the then twon of Fayton, with Mi ss Forsythe, a daughter of Captain Forsyth, of the English Army, and a nie ce of Maj Forsyth, of the American Army, who was so well and so favorab ly known to all the old citizens of Urbana and of the Mad River Valle y. In 1823 he moved to this town of Urbana, where he has ever since reside d, and where he has died, leaving no enemy behind him, but a whole communi ty of devoted friends who have admired and loved him through life and w ho deeply and sincerely lourn with his bereaved and afflicted family at h is loss. A more extended notice will be given hereafter.

Samuel Neese, ( My Great Grandfather ) was born in Shenandoah Co, V a. on 25 oct 1805. He married Catharine Lutz, born on 23 mar 1808 in M t. Jackson, Va., in 1828 or early in 1829 At Mt. Jackson. Sometime therea fter they moved to Champaign Co, Oh., living there until 1843. They mov ed to Perkinsville, Madison Co., In. where they lived until 1855. At th at time they moved to Doniphan, Ks. where Samuel died 17 Sep 1873. Samu el had 8 Children. Frank Marion, born 5 Mar 1851; Caroline, born 1 Apr 18 48 in perkinsville, In.; Matilda E., born 14 Nov 1844; Sarah Jane, bo rn in Ind.; Amanda P., born 16 Feb 1834, she married a Smith; William who died in the Civil war on 2 J an 1863 at Fayetteville, Ak.; Joseph (we have no information on him); a nd David, born 18 Mar 1833 in Champaign Co., Oh. Note that David is Buri ed in the Pleasant Hill Cem in Richland, Ks. Along with 40 or more Zerkle s. ( Is this a part of your Zerkle family branch..? If you are not famil iar with this you can go to google, type in "David Neese, Richland Ks." a nd Pleasent Hill Cem., Neese / Zerkle listing will appear. I hope you m ay find this information useful. I have tried to contact a nelson Ted Smith w ho made an inquiry on one of the web pages about David Neese but my E ma il keeps comming back..I wonder if you have had any contact with h im or if you have a current E mail address.. Again thank you for you previ ous efforts in helping me. Jerry Schletzbaum..
Fran: I might be getting a little closer. Buried in Pleasent Hill Cem. n ear Richland Ks. is a Catherine Neese Born 10 Apr 1798, Died 1 Feb 187 5. Could this be Catherine Koch wife of george Neese??? She is buried n ext to David Neese ( my Grandmother's brother or 1'st cousin) we have lett ers from david which indicate either relation. David was born 18 Mar 1833 and died 31 J ul 1919. He married Mary Ellen Hullinger Born 9 Mar 1838 and died 30 Ap r. 1906. There is a Joram B. Neese born in 1837 and died 1931. ( I belie ve this may have been a brother to David. Also in this cemetery is Elizab eth Zirkle Born 1818 and died 1901 and a Jacob George Zirkle born 21 Nov 1816 and di ed 25 may 1896. Their are many other Zerkle's buried in this cemeter y. Is this family a part of the Henry Neese, Jacob Neese, Ruben Neese fam ily from Oh, to Perkinsville In. ?? My Grandmother Caroline Neese was bo rn in Perkinsville Madison Co., In. 1 Apr 1848. David Neese is my Grandmother's 1'st cousin Frank Neese is david's son and the father of Georgia Neese Clark Gray Laura Neese is davids daughter. Nora neese is david daughter. we have pictures of frank and his family and correspondence between dav id and my Grandmother Caroline Neese.
Fran: I know that Catherine or " Sarah" Lutz had a brother by the Na me of William Lutz as we have a letter from him to his sister. I believe th at it was from Mt. Jackson, Va.
Shenandoah Co., VA NEESE, Samuel, LUTZ, Cathrine 17 Feb 1832
the marriage of Samuel Neese and Cathrine Lutz in 1832 is like ly to be my Great Grandmother and Grandfather; However, Catharine's Obi t. said that she married in her 20th year.. which would have been in 18 28 or 1829. David Neese, the 5th child of Johann George Neese Jr. is a de finite match. David died on 1 Feb 1875 and is burried with his wife Mary Ellen Hullinger, bo rn 9 mar 1838 and died on 30 Apr 1906. Also the birthdate for a Catheri ne born 10 Apr. 1798, buried beside David and Mary, matches your birth da te for Catherine Koch wife of Johann George Neese Jr. If the informati on that I have in correspondence between my Grandmother and David is corre ct, David was her 1'st cousin.. This would make my Great Grandfather Samu el Neese a brother of Johann George Neese Jr. I would appreciate it if y ou could pass this information along to others researching this bran ch of the neese, nehs family. Someone in the Zerkle family may be very in terested in the listings for the Pleasent Hill Cemetery, Richland, K s. It is located about 3 miles west of what was once Richland, Ks. Th is is about 15 miles south of Topeka, Ks. ~~~~~~~~
Some of you may be getting this more than once, and I'm also using some o ld addresses which may not be good. However, the Nehs/Zirkle lists have b een rather quiet so maybe we can get a discussion going again. So folks, l ook through your info and see if you can place Samuel. I think David Nee se is the s/o Catherine Koch and Johann George Neese. Thanks for your hel p.
