After congratulations had been offered a very delightful wedding supper was served. Dr and Mrs Nuckles left on the midnight train for Marshal l, their future home, where he has built up a good practice. Our greetings and best wishes follow them.

A gray dress with a black high collar and beaded trim was worn by Bessie B aker Nuckles for the train ride to Marshall, following their wedding. A photo is in the files, but the quality was not good enough to scan.

Kansas City, Mo.-Jan 30- One of the society events of the season was the wedding this evening at Grace Episcopal Church, of Mr J M nuckols, managing editor of the Times , and Miss Emma Davison, a leader of Jefferson City (mo) society. Miss Davison was attended by her sisters and Mrs Frank O'Bear of St Louis; Mrs Jesse Henry of Jefferson City, and Miss harney of Denver. Dr Edward E Vincent, of Springfield, ILL was the best man. Rev Cameron Mann officiated. After a wedding dinner at the Coates, Mr and Mrs Nuckols left for a honeymoon trip to the East.

The Washington Post Washington District Of Columbia 24 August 1906 Witne sses At Wedding Do The Double Act- Virginia Swain Gets Two Licenses at t he Same Time- Playing a Joke on Chums-When she left her home in Goochla nd Va yesterday with her brother, Elbert C Nuckols and her friend Melin da T Mosby, to witness their wedding in this city, Mattie S Nuckols h ad no idea that she would retunr a bride herself, yet fate had willed it s o, for Robert M Johnson, who was engaged to Miss Nuckols and came with t he party, insisted on getting married before he left town. The two coupl es live in this little town of Goochland Va. The men are in the railway bu siness and they are close personal friends. Their happiness assumed an ext ra tinge of rose when Mr Johnson, shortly after his friend became engag ed to Miss Mosby, followed suit by falling in love with Miss Nuckols, t he sister of his chum. Mr Nuckols and his sweetheart made up their min ds to be married in Washington and set August 28 as the date. Mr Johnson a nd Miss Nuckols had not intended to be married till September, but they gl adly accepted the invitation of the other couple to come along as witnesse s. Mr Johnson was to act as master of ceremonies and get the license, nami ng Rev William Lee Lynn pastor of Gorsuch Methodist Church, L and Four-and -a-half streets southwest, as the officiating clergyman. As soon as he rea ched the city, Mr Johnson sought the clergyman at his home, 1132 Four-and- a-half Street southwest and asked him to perfomr the ceremony. At the sa me time he took Mr Lynn into his confidence and told him that all the w ay to Washington he had thought what fun it would be to get married himse lf and steal a march on the other couple by letting them leave the city wi thout telling them of his intentions. He asked Mr Lynn to keep his secr et and betook himself happily to the courthouse, where he took out two lic enses, one for Elbert C Nuckols, thrity-two, and Melinda T Mosby, twenty-s ix; the other for Robert M Johnson, twenty-nine and Mattie S Nuckols, twen ty-eight. The two couples returned to the home of Mr Lynn, where Miss Mos by was married to Mr Nuckols at 11 o'clock, the bridegroom's sister and h er fiance being witnesses. The newly married couple left immediately f or a short trip, thinking that Miss Nuckols and Mr Johnson would take t he next train for home. What would have been their surprise could they ha ve seen the sister of the bridegroom and his friend hastening back to Mr L ynn's home, where they were married at 2:30. Mrs Lynn, the pastor's wife a nd William R Hunt, a freind, acting as witnesses. The solemnity of the occ asion was somewhat tempered for the bridal party by the recollection of t he joke they had played on their chums. Miss Nuckols hoped, rather tremulo usly, that her brother and his wife wouldn't be too angry when they fou nd they had been deceived, but Mr Johnson's fears of such, a contingency w ere  slight in comparison to the enjoyment he took picturing their surpris e. When the couple left the clergyman's home, on their way to the stati on to take the 3:30 train for home, Mr Lynn shaking the bridegroom's ha nd cordialyy said: "Well, I hope you won't catch it when you get home". "I 'll be the one to catch it," said the bride, laughing.

The marriage of Miss Eva Owens Nuckols to Mr Robert Hicks Gay was solomniz ed Thursday evening at six o'clock at the Christian Church, which was arti stically decorated with carnations, roses and hyacinths used in profusi on against a massive background of ferns and palms. The wedding colors we re green and yellow. Mrs George B Minery played the Bridal Chorus from Lo hengrin as the bridal party came slowly down the isle. Mrs Andrew Bowman w as the matron of honor and Miss Lida Marie Nuckols, the bride's sister. M isses Louise Webb and Carrie Hunt of Lexington and Miss Annie May of Bour bon were the bridesmaids. Mr John Gay a brother of the bridegroom, was t he best man. Mr Lewis Nuckols of Frankfort gave his sister in marriage. T he beautiful and impressive ceremony was performed by Rev R J Bamber. Our courts are n ot organized for the express purpose of unraveling all the matrimonial ent anglements of one John Knuckles in order that he can seek other widows by his blandishments.
