When the 1910 census finally became searchable by all names, this family c onnection has finally been solved. Ancestry has had all name index searcha ble through every census including 1930 but 1910 became the last proje ct they did. Probably because there was a miracode index for 1910 in 3 st ates, Kentucky being one of them. Although he still remains a myster y, we now understand why he gave the names of his parents as fals e. It is probably because he did not want to admit to being African Americ an. All of the marriage documents, chidrens birth records, and all dea th certificates in this family say they are white. His wife Betty was al so white. Even the 1920 &1930 census says he is white. I think this evide nce is enough to confirm he is not connected with the Obediah-Overton li ne in Kentucky

Im currently studying my ancesters on ancestory .com. Im actually worki ng with there family tree plan.My great grandfather was Lige Knuckles. B etty Perkins was my great grandmother. Marie Knuckles Black was my grandmo ther.As you know she is deseased. I just started researching last mon th on my family. Anyway , I've had the worst luck on finding informati on on him. The only information I have is the 1930 census and his dea th record from ancestory.com. I was wondering If there is anyway you cou ld send me copys of what you have? My aunts and uncles say they know noth ing about him exept he was there grandfather. My grandmother said he w as a very mean man She used to tell us, (my mother and I ), that if ever t here was a devil on earth he was it. She said he had coal black hair a nd black eyes. I could'nt help but notice that you had thought he had bl ack parents. According to what you said I could see why you would think t hat, but is there any way that you can be sure His parents were indeed bla ck. Was he showing being black on any information you have? My grandmoth er was very light complected. Allthough I know that dosn't matter. I w as wondering if possiably he may have been a native american I did pull t wo knuckles up off the guion roll. Of course they were not the names you h ave listed possiably being there parents. I want to make sure that I get a ccurate information on my family. I relize that you dont know anything abo ut me or my family; but actually you have given me alot of information th at I other wise would have not known. Do you have much about how he was s hot or why he was shot. Marie Knuckles Black's husband (my grandfather ) w as also shot . He did not die right away he was hospiltillized for a whil e. My dad was the product of Marie Knuckles and Charles Black. My grandfa ther had left my grandmother and was married to another woman or either li ved with her ,Im not sure, but anyways that is when he was shot. Suposed ly she shot him. Anyway thats really not what you wanted to know. I real ly do not kow much about lige. I can tell you Betty Perkins remaried aft er lige. She had one child by him. He was a Stapleton. Cancer took my gran dmothers life and one of ,if not more of ,her brothers life.First my d ad died than about a year later my grandmothers brother died than not lo ng afterwards she died. She was so upsett after my father died she lost in terest in life. She said she did not want to live to see another one of h er children die. That God should have took her first. It was A rough ti me for everyone. Five children still lived at home when my dad died. My mo ther was a basket case for quite some time afterwords .They were marri ed 25 years. I would really love to find out more about lige even thou gh my grandmother said he was so mean. For my children sake it would be go od to know if he was black or not because of chromes desease.
