Thomas HUCKABY (1745-1820's) was the son of Thomas HUCKABY and Nancy Caroline CHAFFIN. He married Keziah NUCKOLS June 22 1772 in Brunswick Co, Lumenburger, Virginia. She is thought to be born 1745-1751. Their first son John was born in 1775. Some time around 1800 they moved to Barren Co, Kentucky.
There are many web sites that show Keziah is the daughter of Charles NUCKOLS and Keziah YANCEY. Nothing about the traditional claim ever seemed to quite fit including the projected birth date for Charles Nuckolls' daughter Keziah which was a little too late to for her to be Thomas Huckaby's wife and the mother of his first child. However, the proof that Charles Nuckoll's daughter, Keziah, was not Thomas Huckaby's wife is on Dennis Yancey's site for Richard Yancey probate records which clearly lists the heirs of Charles and Keziah (Yancey) Nuckolls and shows that their daughter, Keziah, was a spinster and still unmarried in 1810 when a major suite involving the estate took place in Louisa Co, Virginia.
We have also seen a web site that shows her parents as William Nuckols and Henrietta Terry. We know this is not correct since William was born in 1861 AFTER the birth of Keziah. Although there is a daughter named Keziah named in Bertha Nuckols First Virginia Nuckols and Kindred Book I of this couple, it has never been proven and she would have had to have been born after 1800.
We have also seen her listed as Keziah NICHOLS. So the mytery is still today of who her parents are. The families of Nuckols who settled in Barren Co Kentucky are very well documented and there were nnoe with a daughter named Keziah to our knowledge. There are also no known Nuckols families that settled in Brunswick Co, VA where her marriage took place. We hope to some day solve this mystery, but as of now, it will have to remain unsolved.
