CAMERON, Alan Edward - 52, Mount Uniacke, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Mary (Slaunwhite) and Wilfred Cameron. While studying, and later graduating from St. Mary's University, Alan worked as a manager for Wandlyn Inns in Halifax and Antigonish. Following this, he thoroughly enjoyed a career of over 20 years as a publisher's representative in the book industry. He was a referee with Volleyball Nova Scotia and an avid golfer. Alan is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 29 years, Debra (Organ), as well as his daughters "the girls", who were a constant source of pride, Lindsay (Nick) Richards, Mount Uniacke; Kelly (Brian) Power, Amherst; and Jessica (Terry) Carew, Mount Uniacke; also by his adored grandchildren, Cameron and Cody Richards, Mount Uniacke; and Alan Power, Amherst; brother, Donald (Colleen) Cameron, Fort McMurray, Alta.; uncle, Scott Cameron, Wellington; parents-in-law, Ann-Marie and George Organ, Mount Uniacke; sister-in-law, Cynthia (Organ) Maxwell, Mount Uniacke; nieces and nephews, Andrew and Heather Cameron, Fort McMurray; Julia and Joey Maxwell, Mount Uniacke. Besides his parents, Alan was predeceased by his uncle, Ivan Cameron; aunts, Jean Howlett, Annie Lively; brother-in-law, Joseph Organ. CAMERON, Albert Leonard "Al" - 88, Duke Street, Trenton, passed away peacefully in Aberdeen Regional Hospital  on Tuesday, April 25, 2006, after a lengthy illness. Al was born in New Glasgow on October 11, 1917. He was a  son of the late Leonard and Laura (Dick) Cameron. He was the stepson of the late Hannah Cameron. Al owned and  operated a grocery business for many years on Duke Street, Trenton. Those who frequented his store could also  attest to his good humour. He always met his customers with a smile and more often than not, he had a little  story to tell. He was a member of First United Church, Trenton, and was an active member of First United  Church Men's Club. He also served on the Session of First United Church as well as holding the offices of  Chairman of the Board of Managers, Chairman of the Official Board and Chairman of the Trustees of the church.  Al was a Sunday school teacher, taking much pride and interest in the youth he taught. He held the great  distinction of being honoured with a Life Membership to the British Foreign Bible Society, a privilege which  was bestowed upon him in accordance with his contribution and work for the Bible Society. Al also served on  the boards of St. John Ambulance, the Lions Club, where he served as president. He served for seven years on  the Board of Directors of the Children's Aid Society. Al was an ardent member of Doric Lodge No. 91, AF & AM,  Trenton, where he served in many offices including Master of Doric Lodge in 1959. He went on to serve as  District Deputy Grand Master in 1971. Al served in both these capacities in a manner which made his Lodge  proud. He received his 50 year Jewel from the Grand Lodge of Nova Scotia in 1998 and his 55 year Bar in 2003.  He will be sadly missed by his wife of 69 years, Betty (MacDougall); his son, Baxter, Pictou; his  grandchildren, James (Pam), Susan, Rickey (Cheryl), and Tanya; his great-grandchildren, Charles, Lindsay,  Cheryl and Alan, and great great-grandchild, Riley. He is also survived by his half-brothers, Cyril and  Leonard. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, George and sister, Mona; his half-brother,  Purvis, and his half-sister, Thelma. The family will receive visitors in R.H. Porter Funeral Home, High  Street, Trenton, today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Doric Lodge No. 91 AF & AM, Trenton, will hold a Masonic Service  today at 6.45 p.m. in the funeral home. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held in First  United Church, High Street, Trenton, on Thursday, April 27, at 2 p.m., Rev. Sandy MacLean officiating.  Donations can be made to the General Memorial Fund, First United Church, Trenton, or Aberdeen Regional  Hospital Palliative Care Unit.

CAMERON, Allister Raymond "Ray" - 84, of 264 Almont Ave., New Glasgow, passed away suddenly at home on June 23, 2006. Ray was a son of the late Allan D. and Catherine (MacLean) Cameron. He was born in Fairmont, Antigonish Co., where he lived with his grandparents, the late Daniel and Elizabeth (MacDonald) Cameron. At 13 years of age, he became a student of the late Hugh A. MacDonald and became an accomplished Scottish violinist. In his younger years, he joined old time orchestras, one of which was the Eastern Airs who played for dances and on CJFX. Ray was very involved with Antigonish Highland Games Track and Field. At age 16, he joined the Pictou Highlanders and in 1939 became a member of the 86th Battery and transferred to the 87th Battery, serving overseas. Ray was a 67 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion. In 1943, he married Phyllis Walsh, who predeceased him in 1983. Ray was employed by Cunard Shipping Lines, Nova Construction and the Commissionaires until his retirement. He was a blood donor to the Canadian Red Cross for many years. He is survived by his wife, Rita MacIsaac-Cameron; his brothers, Blaise, Clarence, Allan D. Jr., Berkley, all of Antigonish County; St. John of Yarmouth; sisters, Zita Fortier, Antigonish; Rhoda King, New York; special nephew, Rollie, London, England; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, grandparents, brothers, Donald and Owen; sisters, Adell and Carmelita. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial mass will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday in Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, Forge Street, Trenton, with Rev. Robert Day officiating. Members of Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 29, Trenton, are invited to attend. Interment in St. Ninian's Cemetery, Antigonish, at 12 noon with Father Vincent MacLellan officiating. Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 59, Antigonish, will meet in the cemetery to hold their service. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements under the direction of R.H. CAMERON (MacDonald) (MacEachern), Annie Catherine - 83, Judique, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 22,  2006, in Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home. Born in Judique, she was the daughter of the late Hugh A. (Allan  Andrew) and Marion (MacMaster) MacDonald. She was a member of St. Andrew's Parish, Judique Women's Club and  the Kildonan Seniors Club. In her earlier years she was employed at Mount St. Bernard College, Antigonish and  in New York. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she is survived by her children, Marion  (Malcolm) MacLeod, Mabou; Sally, Dan Hughie (Arlene), John Leo MacEachern, Anne Marie (Harold) MacDonald, all  of Judique; Mary Elizabeth Boutlier, Dartmouth; Evelyn MacEachern (Joe), Port Hawkesbury; Bob (Brenda)  MacEachern, Port Hastings; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was  predeceased by her first husband, John Allan MacEachern (1963), and second husband, Jim Alex Cameron (1992) ;  brothers, Angus in infancy, JD, Duncan, James, Allan "Skipper" Donald, and son-in-law, John Dan MacDonald.  Resting at the Judique Men's Club today 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be offered  Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Andrew's Church Judique with Rev. Allan MacMillan and Rev. Duncan MacIsaac  presiding. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Green's  Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury.

CAMERON, Donald A. - 85, Banff, Alta., passed away September 3, 2006, in Banff Mineral Springs Hospital. Cremation followed. Born in Antigonish, he was a son of the late Alex and Mary Agnes (MacDonald) Cameron (South Side Harbour, Antigonish Co.). He was a veteran and served as Flying Officer in the R.C.A.F. He attended St. F.X. University and Technical University of Nova Scotia, obtaining a degree in electrical engineering. Most of his years were spent in Ottawa employed by the Federal Civil Service. He was married to Isabel Wallace from Brandon, Man. In 2002, he moved to Banff where he resided until his death. Surviving are his former wife, Isabel; daughters, Patricia (Robert) Kelly, Calgary; Deborah, Donna Lynn (Bill) Maher, both of Banff; son, Michael, Vancouver; grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Kelly, Ryley and Delaney Maher; brothers, Owen (Peggy), South Side Harbour; John F. (Joan) Belleville, Ont.; Leo (Kay), Harbour Centre, Antigonish Co.; sisters, Genevieve (Jim) MacDonald, Fraser's Mills, Antigonish Co.; Sister M. CAMERON, Duncan F. - 95, Halifax, passed away April 2, 2006, in Northwood Centre. Born in Mabou, he was a son  of the late John Dan and Mary (MacDonald) Cameron of South West Mabou. Duncan was employed as a shipwright  carpenter by the Halifax Dockyards for over 35 years. One notable accomplishment was building a home through  one of the first co-operative housing programs in Canada. Duncan's passion was working with wood and tools,  and producing some very refined items of wood. Duncan will be fondly remembered for his singing, laughter and  overall outgoing personality, and never lost his Gaelic tongue. He is survived by son, John A. (Joanne)  Cameron, Halifax; granddaughters, Darlene (Stephen) Newman, Wendy (Bryan) Broussard, Jennifer (Anthony)  Carlisle; five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Euphemia (O'Hanley) Cameron; half-sisters,  Anne, Mary; brothers, John D., Alex Finlay. Our heartfelt thanks to the 9th floor staff of Northwood Centre  for their unceasing level of compassion and caring. CAMERON, Eugene Arnold - 92, Caledonia, Queens Co., passed away peacefully on June 19, 2006, in North Queens Nursing Home, Caledonia, in the presence of his loving family. Born in Eureka, Pictou Co., he was a son of the late George A. and Mary (Jones) Cameron. Arnold's first career was with the family business working in the Moose River, Tangier and Renfrew gold mines. During the Second World War, he worked as a machinist at the Trenton Gun Shops and later worked as one of the first assemblers of the Canadian Forces CF-100. He also had careers with Marconi Television in Los Angeles, Calif.; Bata Shoe Company, Toronto; StenPro, Liverpool, and spent his final career years working with the Maintenance Department at Kedji National Park. He was a founding member of the Pictou County Boy Scouts, achieving the rank of King Scout. He was a member of the Trenton Gun Shop Memory Club, and the Maritime and Lunenburg County Fiddlers' Associations. Arnold loved nature and spent many years exploring the woods, brooks and lakes of the North Queens area. He was also an avid craftsman and loved spending time in his workshop making grandfather clocks. He loved trout fishing and would always welcome the chance to hit the brooks with his wife, Joan, his children or his grandchildren. Arnold's last two and a half years were spent at North Queens Nursing Home in Caledonia. His family would like to extend a special thanks and a sincere appreciation to the devoted and caring staff of North Queens Nursing Home, especially the Alzheimer's Wing for making his time there very special. He will be sadly missed by his family and he will always be in our thoughts and hearts, knowing he is with the good Lord, with his mother and father and the rest of his family. Arnold is survived by his wife, Joan (Fancy), Caledonia, Queens Co.; son, Bill (Fiona), Hamilton, Ont.; daughters, Bernice (Michael) Gaetz, Winnipeg, Man.; Jane-Marie (Scott) Jenson, Salem, Ore.; grandchildren, Karin Gaetz, Winnipeg, Man.; David (Analie) Gaetz, Greenwood, and Danielle Gillespie, Salem, Ore. CAMERON, Lola Adela - 92, Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of Goshen, passed away Wednesday, April 26,  2006, in the villa. Born in Whitehead, Guysborough Co., she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret  (Munroe) Feltmate. Lola was a resident of Goshen for most of her life. She was the last surviving member of  her immediate family. Surviving are daughters, Helen Fitt, New Glasgow; Jean Cameron, Dartmouth; Leona (Ron)  Bell, Dartmouth; sons, Gordon (Carol) and Glenn, both of Goshen; Carmon, Antigonish; John, Ontario; 27  grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert F. Cameron; daughter,  Kathy Deon; sons, Reid and Lawrence Cameron, and Walter in infancy. The family will receive visitors from 7-9  p.m. today in H.W. CAMPBELL, Duncan Gerard - 59, Shore Road, Judique, died August 7, 1994, in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston.  Born in Port Hood, he was a son of John Martin and Mary Jessie (MacInnis) Campbell. He was a member of St.  Peter's Church, Port Hood and worked as a truck driver for R.L. Cotton Lumber Ltd. He was an avid gardener. He  is survived by a son, David, at home; three brothers, Stephen, Toronto; John Alex, Prince George, B.C.; Tony,  Yellowknife; six sisters, Florence (Mrs. Ray Fecteau), Theresa (Mrs. John Hogan), both of Toronto; Marie (Mrs.  Fred MacLellan), Inverness; Josephine (Mrs. Ronnie MacDonald), Harbourview; Tina (Mrs. Pat Murphy),  Mississauga, Ont.; Betty Ann Campbell, Judique; many nieces and nephews. CAMPBELL, Ellen Seattle - 84, Mary's Abide-A-While Home Ltd., Shelburne, passed away April 2, 2006, in Roseway  Hospital, Sandy Point. Born in West Middle Sable, Shelburne Co., she was a daughter of the late William and  Ada (Latham) Wolfe. Ellen served during the Second World War in the air force. She later worked at the CIBC in  Winnipeg and Shelburne until her retirement. She was a member of the Baptist Church in Shelburne. She is  survived by brother, David Wolfe; sisters, Lalia Maillet, Yarmouth; Georgenia Batchelor, Alberta; as well as  many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by daughter, Donna Hale Connor; brother, Stillman Wolfe; sisters,  Eldora Moody, Josephine Pierce, and Edith Robart. There will be a graveside memorial service and interment of  ashes in West Middle Sable Cemetery today at 2 p.m. with Rev. Troy Dennis officiating. Arrangements are under  the direction of H.M. CAMPBELL, Hector W. - 91, Halifax, died March 19, 1994, in Glades Nursing Home, Halifax. Born in Johnstown,  Richmond County, he was a son of the late Jerry and Mary (MacNeil) Campbell. He worked as a stevedore for 47  years retiring in 1974. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his wife,  the former Helen Boudreau; daughter, Catherine Power, Hatchet Lake; three sons, Donald, Ephrem, both of  Halifax; Maurice, Boutiliers Point; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild. He was predeceased by three  brothers, Lauchie, Jimmy Joe, Donald; three sisters, Sister Jeromina, Sadie Griffen, Annie Saxton; son, Joseph  in infancy. CAMPBELL, John James "Jack" - 71, Coxheath, died July 4, 2006. Born in Sydney Mines, he was a son of the late John "Kelly" and Kathleen (O'Neill) Campbell. CAMPBELL, John Thomas (Jack) - 56, Port Hawkesbury, formerly of Hay Cove, Richmond County, died March 13,  1993, in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born in Sydney, he was a son of the late John Michael and  Margaret (Dwyer) Campbell. He worked as an electricial contractor in the Port Hawkesbury area. He was a member  of IEBW for 34 years and local union 1852. He was a member of St. Joseph's Parish, Port Hawkesbury; the church  choir and Strait Area Barbershop Group. CAMPBELL (White), Mary Jessie - 62, Glengarry, Mabou, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 28, 2006, in Inverness Consolidated Hospital with her husband and family at her side. She fought a courageous battle with cancer. She was a daughter of the late Johnny White and Sarah (MacDonald) White (North East Mabou). She was predeceased by brother, Peter Gerard in infancy. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, Mabou, and worked at Inverary Manor in Inverness for 12 years. She was a wonderful mother who loved and enjoyed her family. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Duncan "Dan T."; sons, John Donald (Michelle), Port Hood; Darryl (Jennifer), Antigonish; Brad (Shauna), New Glasgow; daughter, Wendy (Mark) MacIntyre, West Mabou; brothers, John Willie, Fort McMurray, Alta.; Dan Angus (Doris) White, North East Mabou; sisters, Catherine White, North East Mabou; Eva (Walter) Cameron, Mabou. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and her grandchildren, Boyd and Cole, who gave her such pride and joy. CAMPBELL, Muir Grant - 86, Truro, passed away April 26, 2006, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in  East Wentworth, he was a son of the late Ernest and Elizabeth (Kirk) Campbell. He served overseas with the  Carleton York Regiment during the Second World War. Muir worked as a carpenter (H.H. Stevens Ltd.) and as a  cabinet maker. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro. Muir was the last surviving  member of his immediate family. He is survived by his daughter, Alexa (David) Hoyt, Lower Onslow; son, Muir W.  (Janet), Salmon River; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. CAREY, Mark Delbourne - 68, 158 Point Aconi Rd., Bras d'Or, died March 19, 1994, in Northside General  Hospital, North Sydney. Born at Mill Creek, he was a son of the late Robert and Ellen (Marsh) Carey. He was a  member of St. Joseph's Parish, Bras d'Or. He had been employed at the Franklyn Mine, Moores Electric, and for  20 years with the Northside Victoria School Board until retirement in 1989. He is survived by his wife, the  former Barbara Sexton; son, Glen, Florence; daughter, Melanie (Mrs. Gerald Bragg); two grandchildren; three  sisters, Beatrice Aucoin, North Sydney; Ellen Regis Whryn, Ontario; Dina Piette, Quebec; brother, Teddy,  Ontario. CARLSON, Mary Beatrice - 83, 50 Water St., Glace Bay, died November 21, 1998, in Glace Bay Health Care  Complex, South Street. Born in Cheticamp, she was a daughter of the late Jules and Elizabeth (Aucoin) Deveaux.  She moved to Glace Bay at an early age and was a member of Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay, and also a lifetime  member of Holy Cross Altar Society, and the parish choir. She was also associated with the C.N.I.B. for many  years, and was a member of the Glace Bay pensioners club and Happy Go Lucky Ladies Club. She was an avid  bowler, dart and card player. Surviving are her husband, Edward Carlson; daughters, Leon Carlson, at home;  Irene Campbell, British Columbia; Yvonne Billlard, Mable Crabbe, Glace Bay; foster daughter, Faye (Mrs. Tommy  MacLean), Glace Bay; sons, Gerald, Albert, Richard, Ontario; Ronald, Gabarus; 24 grandchildren; eight  great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Yvonne, Glace Bay; brothers, Leo, Aloysuis, Benard, Ontario; Joseph, Glace  Bay. CARNELL, Reta A. - 92, died on July 8, 2006, following a brief illness. She was predeceased by her husband, Bill; sister, Ethel Steeves; brothers, Robie and Donald Corkum. Born in Dartmouth, Reta lived most of her life in Armdale where she was a member of St. James Anglican Church, and was the last surviving member of the former Armdale Chapter of IODE. She had many interests including international travel, reading and the arts. Reta is survived by her sons, David (Carol), Halifax; Mark (Debbie), Vancouver; Paul (Debbie Pottie), Halifax; as well as her sister, Catherine Greene. She greatly loved her grandchildren, Leslie in Vancouver and Steven (Tracy) in Calgary, and her great-grandchildren Alexis, Tia and Ryann. The family is most grateful for the support of Lorraine and Gayla, Reta's caregivers, the outstanding staff of Melville Heights and her pastor, Rev. Rod Gillis. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late William A. and  Emma C. (McNanley) Carroll. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the RCAF, retiring after 25  years. He was a  retired stationery engineer with the maintenance department of St. Francis Xavier University. He was a member  of Arras branch, Royal Canadian Legion, Antigonish, and St. Ninian's Parish. CHISHOLM, Joan Helene - It is with sadness that we announce the death of Joan Helene Chisholm, 48, of Tamara  Drive, Antigonish, which occurred Tuesday, April 11, 2006, in St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born  in Antigonish, she was a daughter of Mary Gertrude "Gertie" (MacDonald) Chisholm and the late John Michael  "Jack" Chisholm. She attended Antigonish Regional High School, graduating in 1975. She was a graduate of St.  Martha's Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1977. She spent most of her nursing career in the Intensive  Care Unit of St. Martha's Regional Hospital. Commitment and integrity characterized her professional career.  An outstanding athlete, she was a member of the Nova Scotia Ladies Softball Team which competed in the Canada  Games in 1977 where she captured the batting title for the tournament. A member of the Antigonish Golf and  Country Club for the past 20 years, Joan holds the title of Ladies Club Champion for the 2004-2005 seasons.  Most recently Joan became an enthusiastic and talented supporter and player in local women's hockey.  Gardening, hiking and a love of animals permeated Joan's recreational life and reflected the pleasure she took  in the natural world. Joan leaves Rhynda and Jose; mother, Gertie; siblings, Michael (Michelle), Judy  (Walter), John P. (Beverly), twin, Bonita (John), Jimmy, Donald (Anne Marie), Lawrence, Mary (Dave); a number  of nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by siblings, Gabriel, Gwen, and  infant Mary. Cremation has taken place. A private service will be held. CHISHOLM, Margaret - 80, Margaree Forks, died April 23, 2006, in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital.  Born in Grand Etang, she was a daughter of the late Marcellin and Mae (Landry) Delaney. She was a member of  St. Michael's Church, Margaree, and a 50 years member of the CWL. Margaret will be dearly missed by her family  and hundreds of friends on Cape Breton Island. She served tea and lunches to relatives and friends from all  over the world. Archie Neil often referred to her as Sister Margaret for her dedication to all the causes they  represented. After his death, Margaret became afflicted with Alzheimer's, but never lost her memory for the  traditional music she and Archie Neil held so dear. She is survived by son, Robert (Laurie Burrows), Sandpit,  B.C.; daughters, Noreen (Gerald Poirier), Fort McMurray, Alta.; Leona and Michelle (Gordon Crowley), both of  Margaree; brother, Wilfred Delaney, Grand Etang; sisters, Edna MacDonald, Whycocomagh; Mary Helen Delaney,  Halifax; Wilfredine (Calist) Tompkins, Margaree; grandchildren, Megan, Maril, Charleen, Billy, Gordy, Chrissy,  April, Morgan, and Walker. She was predeceased by her husband, Archie Neil Chisholm; brothers, Phillip,  Arthur, Phonsie, Gerald, Manuel, Patrick; sister, Anna Rose; several brothers and sisters in infancy.  Cremation has taken place. CLANNON (Samson), M. Evangeline - Of Arichat, formerly of Little Anse, passed away Sunday, October 8, 2006, at her residence in St. Ann's Community & Nursing Care Centre, Arichat, at the age of 86, after an extended illness. Born in Petit de Grat, she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Mary Alvina (Samson) Samson. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She served as postmistress in Little Anse for many years prior to her retirement. She is survived by daughter, Geraldine Martell, Pondville; granddaughters, Darlene (Tony Morrell), Bristol, Tenn.; Lorelei, Halifax; and grandson, Joey (Lena Urqhart), Arichat; great-grandchildren, Luke and Grayson, as well as adopted brother, Francis Samson, Petit de Grat, and special companion, Francis Martell. She was predeceased by husband, John; son-in-law, Hubert; brothers, Lawrence (in infancy), Arthur (Margaret) and Lawrence (Leontine). CLARK, Lionel Louis - 57, Hilden, passed away on June 10, 2006, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, surrounded by his family. Born April 14, 1949, in Sydney, he was a son of the late Robert and Violet (Boutlier) Clark. He is survived by his wife, Carol Ann; sons, Paul (Anne) and Lionel Jr., and daughter, Michelle (Michael); grandchildren, Reilly, Olivia, Christian and Nathan, all of Truro; brother, Robert, Riversdale; sister, Brenda, Sydney. He was predeceased by his brother, Gregory. Lionel spent his entire life in the transportation industry starting as a driver with Moffatt Brothers and ending his career with Clarke Road Transport, Halifax, as the Director of Loss Control and Safety. He was on the Board of Directors of the Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association and received the first National Instructor Achievement Award from the Canada Safety Council. He was the past president of Colchester Amateur Boxing Club and Colchester Amateur Sports Association. Lionel enjoyed spending time at his cottage on Angevine Lake, where he was famous for his french fries and homemade bread. Lionel loved kids and looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren and all the kids at the lake. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting with his youngest son, Lionel Jr. Lionel was a big man with an even bigger heart. He was always ready to lend a hand or spin a yarn. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A special thanks to the compassionate nursing staff in the ICU who provided Lionel with such excellent care. Visitation will be held today 7-9 p.m., Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. CLOREY, Joseph (Simon) - 75, Causeway Road, Seaforth, died May 9, 1993, in Camp Hill Medical Centre. Born in  West Arichat, he was a son of the late Rena and Caesar (Boudreau) Clorey. He was wounded veteran of the Second  World War, serving in the Canadian Infantry Corps. He was employed in numerous jobs throught the course of his  career and before retirement, worked in the Corps of Commissioners. COMEAU, Fred J. - 90, Winthrop, Mass., formerly of Chelsea, passed away April 16, 2006. He was a son of the  late Agapite Comeau and Elizabeth Melanson (Meteghan River); beloved husband of the late Leona (Arsenault);  loving father of Cedric Comeau and his wife Ruth, Saugus; Shirley Follett and her late husband Bill, Billerica  and Anida Murray and her husband James, Wakefield; brother of Father Louis Comeau, Bernard Comeau and his wife  Jacqueline and Desire Comeau and his wife Blanche, all of Meteghan River. He is also survived by six  grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Fred was a veteran of the  Second World War serving in the Canadian Navy. Born in Little Brook Station, he was a son of the late Camille and Emilie (Comeau) Comeau. He worked at University St. Anne for 30 years. He bowled for 25 years and just loved playing pool. He leaves to mourn his common-law wife, Ida Deveau, formerly of Mayflower; his stepdaughter, Louise Deveau, Comeauville; his stepgrandson (son), Clyde, at home. Born in River Hebert, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Frances (Barrett) Scopie. Rose was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, Joggins, and the Christmas Club. CONNORS, Stewart Edward - 66, Abercrombie, Pictou County, died November 27, 1992, in Sutherland Harris  Memorial Hospital, Pictou. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic  Church; Abercrombie Fire Department; veteran of the Second World War and member of Royal Canadian Legion,  Branch No. 34, New Glasgow. He is survived by his wife, the former Georgina Dunbar; two daughters, Sherry  (Mrs. Stewart Boudreau), Dartmouth; Darlene (Mrs. Max Wildhaber), Switzerland; two sisters, June (Mrs.  Clarence Smith), Coalburn, Pictou County; Dorothy (Mrs. Ralph Holmes), Plymouth; three grandchildren. He was  predeceased by two sisters in infancy. The body is in R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral will be 4  p.m. today in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church. CONWAY, J. Howard "Howie" - 73. Howie passed away peacefully on October 2, 2006, in Montreal Neurological Institute. Born in New Waterford, Cape Breton, he was a son of the late James and Annie (Petrie) Conway. Educated in town schools, he continued his education at St. Francis Xavier in Antigonish, then received his Engineering Degree at the Nova Scotia Technical College in Halifax. At the time of his retirement, he was employed with Teleglobe Canada, Montreal. He is survived by his wife, Monique (Pineau), Dollard des Omeaux; daughters, Suzanne (Johnathen), Julie (Mark), and son, James (Lise), Ottawa; also five grandchildren. COPAN, Arthur Joseph "Mannie" - The family of the late Mannie Copan, New Waterford, sadly announces his passing on Thursday, June 29, 2006, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, at the age of 85, surrounded by his family. Born in Stellarton, he was a son of the late Arthur and Bertha (MacKenzie) Copan. During the Second World War, he was a member of the West Nova Scotia Regiment, fought overseas and was wounded in action in Sicily. Upon his return to Canada, he met and married his wife of 60 years, Marie "Mitzi" Keusch. He was employed as a coal miner for over 41 years in the collieries of New Waterford. Over the years he enjoyed watching sports, hockey, baseball and his favorite, wrestling. He was an avid fisherman his entire life and spent many a day in and on the waters of Lake Ainslie. Mannie loved to sing and could be heard serenading family and friends often and "oh how he could yodel". During his stay in hospital, he was heard telling a doctor, "Well Doctor, I have a loving wife and three fine daughters and a granddaughter. I fought overseas to save my country and I have nothing to complain about". Mannie will be remembered as a kind and loving person who devoted his life to his family. Mannie is survived by his beloved wife, Marie "Mitzi"; daughters, Patsy Suddons (John), Beverly White (Bruce English), Cheryl White (Robert); and his only granddaughter, Heather White (Graham Rose); brothers, Andrew (Elda) and George (Wilma); sisters, Sadie Keusch and Gladys Copan; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a son in infancy; brothers, Clarence and Henry; sisters, Mary Smith and Tillie Hoffman. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by request. The family will be receiving visitors before the funeral. COPE, Warrington Thomas (Slim) - 81, St. Peter's, Richmond County, died September 17, 1993, in Strait Richmond  Hospital, Evanston. He was born in Hamilton, Ont. He served in the merchant marine before entering the navy  where he served overseas in the Second World War, retiring after 22 years of service as a chief petty officer.  He worked for External Affairs in Ottawa and Poland until 1977. He was employed with Black and Decker until  retirement in 1980. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 47, St Peter's, receiving the Certificate  of Merit and he belonged to St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church. CORDEAU, Francis Isidore - 74, Dartmouth, died peacefully at home on October 2, 1999, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in Sydney Mines, he was a beloved son of the late Jean Pierre "Jack" Cordeau and Emma (Fortune) Cordeau. He is survived by his loving wife, Maria (Byrne) Cordeau; daughters, Mary, Annette (husband Keith) McIntosh, and Theresa and his special granddaughter, Haley McIntosh, all of Dartmouth. He is also survived by brothers, Daniel (wife Frances), Toronto, Joseph (wife Vivian), Sydney Mines; Father Leo, St. Edmund's Parish, Edmonton; and Charles (wife Katherine), Belleville, Ont.; and by sisters, Mary (husband Arthur) Crane, Sydney; Detta Haley (husband Ted Haley, deceased), Sydney Mines; Teresa (husband Elmer) Doiron, Sydney River; Betty, Sydney Mines; sister, Geraldine and sister Agnes, Holy Angels Convent, Sydney; and sister, Anna, Congregation of Notre Dame, Edmonton. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and other relatives in Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia, all of whom he knew well and loved very much. He was predeceased by brothers, John and Stanley. After attending St. Francis Xavier University for a year, he returned home to Sydney Mines, following the sudden death of his father. He worked at the Machine Shop and Coal Wash Plant in Sydney Mines for 11 years. He studied stationary engineering and moved to Dartmouth where he was employed as a stationary engineer at the Imperial Oil Refinery for 12 years. He graduated from Dalhousie University where he obtained B.A. and B. Ed. degrees and subsequently taught stationary engineering in the Dartmouth Regional Vocational School from 1969 until his retirement in 1988. During his years in Sydney Mines, he was very active in parish and community affairs. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish Choir and of the local A.O.H. Drama Club. He was a devout member of St. Peter's Parish, Dartmouth, and a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus, having served as Comptroller of the Archbishop McCarthy Assembly 0799, Halifax. He was a past grand knight of St. Peter's Council 3133, Dartmouth. His faith and courage were an inspiration to all who knew him. Visitation will take place in Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29 Queen St., today, October 5, and Wednesday October 6, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. The funeral mass will take place in St. Peter's Church, Maple St., Dartmouth on Thursday, October 7, at 2 p.m., Rev. New Glasgow, he was a son of Jane (DeGruchy) Cormier, Trenton, and the late Gilbert Cormier. As a boy, Bernie grew up in 
Trenton. A welder by trade, Bernie worked at Trenton Works for over 40 years. He loved the outdoors and going to the camp 
with "Lucky Dog". He enjoyed spending time in the barn where he was always working on something. However, Bernie's family 
was always most important to him, being very proud of his six children. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Mildred 
"Pookie" (Lafferty); children, Kathy Dempsey (Skip), White Rock; Andy, Wendy and Jennifer, all of New Glasgow; Wayne

CORMIER, Victor Patrick - 81, Belle Cote, Inverness Co., passed away April 29, 2006, in Sacred Heart Community  Health Centre, Cheticamp, with his family by his side. Born in Belle Cote on July 18, 1924, he was a son of  the late John and Mary Ann (Doucet) Cormier. He was a member of St. Michael Church, Margaree. He leaves to  mourn his wife, Theresa; sons, Richard, Vancouver; Paul, Montreal; Patricia, Montreal; granddaughter, Simone,  Vancouver; brothers, Edward, Belle Cote; Joe, Shubenacadie; sister, Jeannette, the United States. COTTREAU, Sister Bridget (Sister Mary Simplicius) - 82, Mount Saint Vincent Motherhouse, died July 7, 1994, in  Victoria General Hospital. Born in Wedgeport, she was a daughter of the late Jeremiah and Arsene (Boudreau)  Cottreau. She entered the Sisters of Charity in 1930 and made her religious profession of vows in 1933. She  served for several years in the Halifax Infirmary and St. Joseph's Orphanage, Halifax; Hamilton Memorial  Hospital, North Sydney and in many convents in Nova Scotia and Vancouver, B.C. Her last active years were  spent in Meteghan, where she ministered in spiritual and social outreach to the local community. In 1987, she  retired to Mt. St. Vincent Motherhouse and remained actively involved until her recent illness. She is  survived by her sister, Mrs. Linda Deveau, Groton, Conn.; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be after  2:30 p.m. Sunday in Mt. St. Vincent Motherhouse, where Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday in  their chapel, Rev. Martin Currie officiating. He worked for a time with the Yarmouth Box Factory, and then worked as a carpenter with Joe Surette Construction until his retirement. He was a veteran of the Second World War, having served with the Royal Canadian Army in France, Germany and Britain, and he was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 61, Yarmouth. Surviving are daughter, Sandra (Ivan) Surette, Arcadia; daughter-in-law, Joyce Cottreau, Arcadia; granddaughter, Shelley (Darcy) Robbins; great-granddaughters, Vanessa and Jade; brother, Arthur (Frances) Cottreau, Yarmouth; sisters, Florence Tiller, Vancouver; Betty Williamson, United States, and his former wife, Mary D. COX, Charles F.T. - 87, River Philip, Cumberland Co., passed away peacefully in The Moncton City Hospital on Thursday, July 6, 2006. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Gibson and Helen (Anderson) Cox. As a young man, he joined the Halifax Rifles on July 29, 1940, and when it was disbanded in England, he went with Sherbrooke Fusiliers Tank Corps, serving to the end of the Second World War. Following this, he worked as a mechanic in Halifax until September 30, 1951. At that time, he joined the RCAF and had two tours back to Europe until May 24, 1969. Upon retirement from the RCAF, he was employed with the Government of Alberta with the Alberta Department of Highways from April 1970 until August 31, 1981. He came to River Philip to make his home in 1996. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 36, Oxford. He was also a member of the United Church of Canada. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are his wife, the former Pearl E. Adshade; stepdaughters, Cheryl Carruthers (Jim), River Philip; Melinda Mitchell, Riverview, N.B.; Mae LeBlanc (Michael), Notre Dame, N.B.; Rebecca Hannigan (George), River Philip; stepson, Robert Adshade, Wentworth; a number of stepgrandchildren and step great-grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Phyllis Bowles Parker; sister, Marguerite Travis; stepson, Leon Adshade. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or funeral service at the request of the deceased. A family graveside service will be held in Berwick United Church Cemetery on Monday, July 10, at 2 p.m. with K. Ruth Gamble officiating. COX, Mary Marjorie - 60, 42 Stanley St., North Sydney, died August 16, 1994, in Northside General Hospital,  North Sydney. Born in North Sydney, she was a daughter of Mrs. Josephine Boudreau, Petitde-Grat and the late  John Boudreau. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church and choir; involved in the CWL and parish secretary for  a number of years. She was a member of the mixed auxiliary of Knights of Columbus, North Sydney. She was at  one time employed as a secretary at Point Edward Naval Base. She is survived by her daughter, Mary (Mrs. John  Pyke), Hantsport; three sons, Joe, Rob, Lloyd, all of North Sydney; three sisters, Alvena Burchell, Sydney  Mines; Edith MacDonald, North Sydney; Yvonne (Mrs. Francis Samson), Petit-de- Grat; two brothers, Arcent,  Sydney Mines; Leon, Petit-de-Grat; a granddaughter; a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her  husband, Allan; brother, George; Joseph and Clara Landry, by whom she was raised. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9  p.m. today in W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, North Sydney. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph's Church,  Rev. Tom MacNeil officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations may be made to St. Joseph's  Church building fund or The Lung Association.

CRAWFORD, Harry Albert - 83, Cowan Street, Westville, died February 3, 1996, in Aberdeen Hospital, New  Glasgow. Born in Westville, he was a son of the late Edward and Lottie (Baker) Crawford. He was a coal miner  most of his working life; a veteran of the Second World War, serving overseas in France, Italy, Sicily,  Germany and Holland with the Royal Canadian Artillery, and life member of Royal Canadian Legion, branch 35,  Westville. Surviving are his wife, the former Dorothy Rankin; sons, Ken, Jim, Sylvester; Jackie, Westville;  daughters, Eileen (Mrs. Fred Forrest), Lansdowne; Carolyn (Mrs. Bert Boudreau), Arichat; 12 grandchildren;  eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by brothers, Ruben, Edward, Simon; sisters, Lottie Wilson, Annie  Partington, Gertie. Funeral 2 p.m. today in Eagles Funeral Home, Westville, Rev. Joseph Lafave officiating.  Burial in Auburn Cemetery, Westville. Donations to IWK-Grace Health Centre or VON.

CRESSEY, Donald Everett - 67, Baddeck, died February 21, 1993, in Aberdeeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in  Ipswich, Mass., he was a son of the late Herman S. and Elva (Egler) Cressey. He was a retired wholesale  florist, working in the United States with his father. He is survived by two daughters, Donna (Mrs. Andrew  Turner), The Netherlands; Debra (Mrs. John Laplante), Fairfield, Me.; sister, Marcia (Mrs. Summer Haley),  Rolley, Mass.; brother, Robert, Topsfield, Mass.; four grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the  former Marie Alice Boudreau; son, Donald. The body has been cremated under the direction of R.H. Porter  Funeral Home, New Glasgow. No visitation or service by request.

CROSSMAN, Lorraine Reta - 64, Dartmouth, died June 27, 1993, in Waterville. Born in Halifax, she was a  daughter of the late Michael and Vera (Boudreau) MacDonald. She is survived by three brothers, David, Gerald,  both of Lower Sackville; Carl, Halifax. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley. Cremation has taken place  under the direction of J. Albert Walker and Sons Funeral Home, Dartmouth. A graveside service will be 2 p.m.  July 14 in Mount Hermon Cemetery, Dartmouth. Donations may be made to any charity.

CULLEN, John A. (Johnny) - 166 Rutherford St., Stellarton, died November 28, 1992, in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of Eva (Boudreau) Cullen, Stellarton, and the late John Cullen. A lifelong resident of Stellarton, he was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church; chairman of Lourdes Parish Hall Committee and past chairman of the parish council. He was a 17-year member of Pictou District School Board and chairman of Pictou Regional Housing. He also sat and chaired for 12 years on Pictou 
County Community College Board. He was a former employee of Clark Tire Limited, New Glasgow and B.F. Goodrich Limited, New Glasgow. He was office manager with Goodwear Treaders Limited, Antigonish, until becoming ill. He is survived by his wife, the former Anne Morgan; two daughters, Lee Anne CullenRudolph, Stellarton; Linda Turnbull, Hopewell; son, Robert Joseph, Peterborough, Ont.; sister, Jeanette (Mrs. Michael Elchuck), Stellarton; two brothers, Albert, Robert, both of Lourdes, Pictou County; two grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Karen. The body is in H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton, visiting 3-5, 7-9 p.m. today. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Rev. Charles Cameron officiating. Burial will be in parish cemetery. Family flowers only. CULLEN, M. Eva - 92, Maple Crest Senior Citizens, Stellarton, died June 20, 1995, in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Pomquet, Antigonish Co., she was a daughter of the late Dosiety and Celina (Fougere) Boudreau. She was a resident of Stellarton for 69 years, residing at Maple Crest Senior Citizens for the last 22 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are sons, Albert, Bob, Lourdes; daughter, Jeanette (Mrs. Mike Elchuck), Stellarton; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John Sr.; son, John Jr.; brother, Joseph; sisters, Georgina, Jenny, Rachel, Hattie, Sadie, Mary; granddaughter, Karen Cullen. CURDO, Whitney - 83, River Bourgeois, Richmond Co., died March 13, 1995, in Strait Richmond Hospital,  Evanston. Born at River Bourgeois, he was a son of the late Placide and Julia (Burke) Curdo. He was the last  surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. CURRIE, Arthur John - 71, Dartmouth, passed away after a brief illness on Friday, June 16, 2006, in Dartmouth General Hospital surrounded by family. Born in Enfield, he was a son of the late Lewis Currie and Mary (Gaudet) Rennison. He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis (Campbell). Art was the founder and operator of Arthur Currie Heating Ltd. for over 40 years. He enjoyed his work and took pride in it. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching horse races. Art loved to watch his children and grandchildren play hockey. He is survived by children, Anne Marie Currie, Victoria, B.C.; Vera Isenor, Enfield; Colin, Dartmouth; Mark (Kim), Enfield; Ian (Glenda), Enfield; Heather Shreenan (Joe), Enfield; nine grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Walker and Virginia Singer; brothers, Albert Rennison Jr. and Charles Rennison. He was predeceased by sisters, Anne Marie in childhood and Alice Ashley. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, June 19, in St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church, where a funeral mass will take place 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, with Father Raymond Mura presiding. Interment in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Enfield, will follow the service. A reception will be held at the Enfield Legion. Donations in memory of Arthur may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. CURRIE, Sarah Elizabeth (Sadie) - 76, MacLeod Avenue, New Waterford, died September 17, 1995, in Cape Breton  Regional Hospital. Born in New Victoria, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Jane (Mahon) Cameron. She  was a member of Mount Carmel Church and at one time worked at Hamburg's, Cribb's Bookstore, Woolco and worked  for 18 years in New Watertford Consolidated Hospital as a ward clerk before retirement. Surviving are her  husband, Duncan J.; sons, Michael A., Coxheath; Duncan Jr., Paul G., New Waterford; five grandsons; three  granddaughters; a great-grandson; sisters, Anna Koenig, Tarpon Springs, Fla.; Selina (Mrs. Sonny Pearson),  Agincourt, Ont. She was predeceased by sisters, Jane V. Wentworth, Mayme and Esther Cameron, Clara Boudreau.  Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Homes Ltd., 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Funeral  10 a.m. Wednesday in Mount Carmel Church. Burial in parish cemetery.
