ROBERT LEE DANIEL

An enterprising business man of keen discernment, Robert Lee Daniel is responsible for the establishment and success of the San Diego branch of the E. W. Reynolds corporation, manufacturing opticians and jewelers, and is also a civic leader. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1885, and is a son of J. C. and Ruth (Lee) Daniel, who still make their home in that city.

In the grammar and high schools of his native city Robert L. Daniel pursued his education and later enrolled as a student in the U. B. Needles Institution of Optometry, which he attended until his graduation. In 1917 he enlisted in the medical department of the United States Army and remained in the service of his country for five years. Mustered out in 1922, he came to California and opened the San Diego office of the E. W. Reynolds corporation. He is the owner and general manager of the business, which is located on the fifth floor of the Scripps building, and has made effective use of his scientific knowledge and executive force in furthering its growth.

Mr. Daniel married Miss Violet Thompson, by whom he has a daughter, Betty Lee, aged six years. He belongs to the San Diego Athletic Club, the American legion, the Woodmen of the World, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, the Masonic fraternity and the shrine. His wife is a member of the Thursday Club and both are prominent in social circles of San Diego. Courteous, affable and sincere, Mr. Daniel readily wins friends and the years serve to strengthen his hold upon their esteem. While never an office seeker, he is always ready to aid his community when needed, and under the new city charter was recently appointed president of the civil service commission for a term of four years. In assuming these duties he brought to bear the energy, conscientiousness and efficiency which have characterized his work throughout life and made him a successful business man.
