*Established in Klamath County; taken into Humboldt when Klamath area was apportioned between Humboldt and Siskiyou in 1875.

†Recorded as established in Trinity County, taken into Humboldt when created 12 March 1853. Thus Eureka was actually in Humboldt County when established, unless it operated under local authority three months before Washington approval. The record on Union Town is correct.

‡Recorded as established in Trinity County, although the site was taken into Klamath 25 April 1851. However, Trinidad may well have operated under the authority of the Special Agent of the Post Office Department while still in Trinity. See Part II, List 7. It remained in Klamath as County Seat until 1875, when the site was assigned to Humboldt County.
