Manion Family Plot
THE QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CEMETERY,
Formerly, cemetery of St. Philomenia* Cath. Church
Wancum Street (Street of Remembrance)
Hawley, Wayne Co., Pennsylvania
Turn west at the Falls Port Inn in Hawley (from Rte. 6 east and west, onto Church Street). Go to end of street (3 blocks) and turn left traveling up the hill, bearing right on to Wancum. The cemetery is at the top of the hill.
BROUNER Mary E., wife of John Brouner,
died March 28, 1881, aged 54 years. There are no inscriptions on any other
sides of monument. Located at left (east) rear of cemetery.

DUNN - KEARNEY William Dunn, 1862 -
1895. Annie Kearney His Wife, 1868 - 1916. Their Son Lawrence, Aged 8
Months.
FERGUSON - DOWNEY and CLIFFORD -
CAVANAGH Facing the oldest graves in the cemetery (Manion plot in
rear of this photo). On the left, the CLIFFORD monument with cross on top,
is inscribed on three sides: Ella J., daughter
of Michael and Harriet Clifford, died June 19, 1886, aged 23 years, 7
mos., 19 days. R.I.P. Side 2: Michael
Clifford, A native of Crossmolina Co. Mayo Ireland, died December 26,
1894, aged 74 years; and, Harriet CAVANAGH, his wife, 1832 - 1915.
Side 3: Alice V. CLIFFORD, 1861 - 1917. The monument in the right front
of picture belongs to Catharine FERGUSON, wife of William DOWNEY, born
May 27, 1861, died July 16, 1896. R.I.P.
FARRELL - SHERIDAN FAMILY PLOT Old stone, sits next to newer marker. Lists:
FARRELL: John, 1827 - 1875; Mary, 1837 - No date; Anne, 1861 - 1862;
Eliz(abeth) 1870 - 1870; Veronica Sheridan, 1898 - 1898. At bottom of
old original stone is a dedication by "Mary". To the left of this stone are
other Farrell stones, as follows: Father, JAMES
SHERIDAN, 1851 - 1906.
To the left again, Mary Agnes, 1879 - 1899. Two final stones, to the left of Mary Agnes are
for Margaret Philomena, 1891 - 1906, and
Ellen Cecilia, 1886 - 1904.

(east), lower corner of cemetery, "Mother of Sorrow" Section. Some names in
view: CAMPION, CHRISTIE, FERRARO, FOSTER, GARNER, HAYNE, KOZINSKY, LACKNER, LATHAM, MICHITSCH, ROCHE, ROETHEL, UZUPES, WOLF, ZORA.

Facing East from center of cemetery. Some
names in view: MC KENNA; NEALON. The old stone, half buried (right) has
the first name showing: Patrick. Center right in the photo seems to be the
oldest part of the cemetery.
GILL - KANE A general view, top east side of
cemetery, with Roger Gill - Bridget Kane left front: Roger Gill, born May
16, 1828, died May 5, 1899. Bridget Kane, wife of Roger Gill, born June
24, 1833, died Feb. 27, 1896. To the right of these graves are the stones
of CONLON, HARRISON, TUMAN.
HABERTHUR - MEIER This fallen stone is
the monument of Vincent Haberthur, 1822 - 1905, his wife, Franciska Meier
1827 - 1897.
HARRISON This fallen stone, in front of
"Unknown 1" (see below) is partially legible. The first name is probably
Patrick. It reads: ---rick Harrison, who died Feb. 8 (?), 1882, aged 25 (?)
years. (See "MORAN", below for another view of these stones.)
Facing West/North from top Some names in
view: ANNA MC CONNELL; SARTORI; SONNER; SCHOLL.
LANE This was taken in the back left of the
cemetery (east side) in the oldest portion. The dark rounded stone in the
left foreground is that of Johanna, "wife of Michael Lane of Modeligo Co.
Waterford Ireland, died June 4, 1877, aged 32 years; their daughter
Margaret, died June 8, 1877, aged 9 days. Behind and to the left is one of
the WATTERSON graves. To Johanna's right is the grave of MICHAEL
DONLON and his wife, MARY GAYNOR, and their son: Michael Donlon, Aged
65 years. Mayr Gaynor, his wife. James Donlon, Aged 35 years. The
GILL, HARRISON, CONLON and TUMAN graves on to the right of DONLON.
MANION/MANNION This family plot is one
of the oldest, in the top left (east) rear of the cemetery, just before the
woods, the stones face the forest. From left to right: 1. BRIDGET (rest of
stone not legible); 2. PATRICK, died Marcy 27, 1883, aged 52. Rest in
Peace. 3. MARIE, wife of JAMES MANION, died Feb. 11, 1855, native of
___ Co. Roscommon Ireland. 4. GEORGE MANION, died March (prob.), 16,
18??, native of Ireland. 5. THOMAS. 6. JAMES MANION died Jan (or
Jun), 26, 1877 aged 50 years. RIP. 7. THOMAS MANNION, native of
Roscommon Ireland, died May 25, 1895, aged 78 years, RIP. Other graves
behind these are FARRELL family stones, DIETZER, and WATTERSON.
MC GINTY - SMITH May His Soul Rest in
Peace. Erected by their son, John. Richard Mc Ginty born 20 Dec. 1827,
died 15 Apr. 1903. Isabella Smith, born 12 Aug. 1824, died 1 Nov. 1902.
MENOTTI/MENOTI Angiolina Menotti,
Beloved Wife of Bt. Menoti, Born in Itali, Nov. 21, 1841. Died Nov. 9,
1898, Aged 57 Years. Regreted by Her Family and Friends. Located at
back top left (east) in cem.
(MONAHAN) Mary, wife of Thomas
Monahan of Ballana Parish of Kilmore County Mayo Ireland. Departed this
life May 14, 1874, Aged 32 years. May she rest in peace.
MORAN Pray for the soul of Bridget Moran.
Died Nov. 10, 1880, Aged 65 years. Also of Thomas Moran, died (rest of
stone buried). Other stones in this area: AFFORD; WECCE; and
HARRISON. The HARRISON stone reads: Patrick Harrison, 1837 - 1900.
Winifred SPELLMAN, his wife, 1843 - 1908. Requiescant in Pace.
POLT Here Rests, Frank, Son of H. & M. Polt.
Born June 9, 1876. Died Jan. 16, 1891. In background: Stones of (left),
LA TOURNOUS, and right: JOHN MC CLOSKEY, May 1, 1804 - Dec. 24,
1893. His Wife, Anna MC MANUS, June 15,1815 - Jan. 28, 1878. Their
daughter Bridget (prob.) E., wife of George Gidney, ___ 28, 1857 - Dec.
20, 1893. RIP.
SARTORI - POLVARA Left: Felix Sartori,
1845 - 1899. Adelaide Polvara, His Wife, 1850 - 1933. Right: A commemorative placque dedicated by Edward
J. and Verna M. Sartori listing descendents and spouses of desc.
SCALLY Sara Scally, daughter of Patrick and
Maria Scally, died June 5, 1820, aged 10 years 11 months and 8 days. Blowup of bottom of stone, reads the familiar:
Remember me as you walk by, as you are now so once was I. As I am now,
you soon will be, ------. The stone was "erected by ----Father Patrick
Scally Parish --- of --- County Roscommon Ireland. Monument in right
rear is that of George Baschon, August 20, 1805 - March 4, 1878.
SCHOLL Arthur W. Scholl, U.S. Army, World
War II, Jan. 9, 1918 - April 20, 2000. Wild strawberry plants grace the
placque.
SCHOLL Mary A. 1881 - 1949; Frank J.
1885 - 1968. Small marker top left of grave says "Scholl". Military WWII
Military marker is close to the left side of this stone. At the foot of the
stone is a military placque for Arthur Scholl.
SONNER - SCHOLL - HUGHES Left Stone in
foreground: Frederick J. Sonner, 1917 - Vet. WW II; Madalyn B. Scholl,
his wife, 1917 - 1994. Father and Mother. To the right: Edward C.
Scholl, 1887 - 1966. Regina E. Hughes, his wife, 1895 - 1960. Father
and Mother. Other stones legible in this area, MC ANDREW, MC GINNIS,
SARTORI. Graves are top right (west) in cemetery.
TUMAN Our Little Johnie, son of George &
Mary Tuman, born July 2, 1886,died Dec, 15m 1777. To the right of
Johnie's stone is CHRISTENA, daughter of George and Mary Tuman. To the
rear is partial view of stone of Philip CONLON, "native of the Parish of
Cloone County _______ Ireland; died Sept. 14, 1859, aged 23 years ----.
WALTON Thos. Walton, Co. G. 141st PA.
INF. The broken stone behind this grave reads: ....Wife of Martin
LOFTUS, died Aug. 7, 1864, Aged. 66 years. Requiescat in pace. Behind
the broken stone: QUEENNAN: Margaret Queennan, died Aug. 12, 1858,
aged 18 years and 9 mos. Requiescat in Pace. Erected by ? Marley,
(cannot read photo).
UNKNOWN 1 Legible words are, line 1:
-----ray (or ruy) -----the wife of. Line 2: Elizabeth (or Elizah &)
----last letters look like "coni". (See "Harrison", above, for another view of
this stone.)
*On May 31, 1962, St. Philomena's became Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Peace as designated by the Most Rev. Jerome Hannon, Bishop of Scranton.
