
Iver Monson Anderson was born out of wedlock on October 29, 1846 to Mons Anderson Haugen from Øvrevoll and Anna Håkonsdatter Haugen from Borgund. Anna later married Ole Andersson Spjodnahaugen Færestad in 1853 and together they had five sons: Andrew (b. 1852), Ole (b. 1854), Albert (Ingebrigt) (b. 1858), Ole (b. 1861) and James (Jens) (b. 1864). Iver's mother, stepfather and half brothers immigrated to Steele County, Minnesota in 1873. His father, stepmother and their children had already come to America in 1861, eventually settling in Steele County. In 1866, Iver immigrated to America and settled in Steele County, where he married Turi Olsdatter from Gjerde in Balestrand on January 2, 1871, the first recorded marriage at the Aurora Lutheran Church. Turi's parents were Ole Clausen and Bothilde Hansdatter. Iver and Turi had six children: Anna Oline (b. September 26, 1871); Martha Bothilde (b. August 29, 1874); Helene Andrea (b. January 22, 1878); Moses (b. March 12, 1880); Oline (b. December 9, 1885); and Ida (b. September 29, 1888). Iver and Turi lived in Aurora township before moving to Owatonna. Iver was elected Steele County treasurer around 1895, serving two terms. He was also a director of the Sognalaget. Iver died January 2, 1914 in Steele County. His wife and daughters Martha, Ida and Helene survived him.
I. Anna Oline Anderson (b. September 26, 1871) married Simon Peder Thompson (b. October 11, 1870) at the Aurora Lutheran Church on October 12, 1892. Simon was the son of Andrew and Anna (Pedersdatter) Thompson, immigrants from Lærdal, Sogn, Norway and among the earliest Norwegian settlers in Havana Township. Simon and Anna had two children: Tilda Alvina (b. January 22, 1894) and Arthur Irving (b. October 4, 1895). The couple were either separated or divorced, and Anna and the children were living with her parents when she died on November 11, 1910. Simon died in Minneapolis on December 23, 1939 and he is buried in the Thompson Cemetery, although there is no marker.II. Martha Bothilde Anderson (b. August 29, 1874) was single and living at home in Owatonna in 1914.
III. Helene Andrea Anderson (b. January 22, 1878) married a man named Professor Helland who taught at Augsburg and they lived in Minneapolis.
IV. Moses Anderson (b. March 12, 1880) died May 11, 1905. He is buried in the Aurora Lutheran Church cemetery.
V. Oline Anderson (b. December 9, 1885) died December 7, 1905. She is buried in the Aurora Lutheran Church cemetery.
VI. Ida Anderson (b. September 29, 1888) was single and teaching school in North Dakota when her father died in 1914.
