William Thurlby born circa 1650
We know that this William Thurlby was a tenant farmer (Husbandsman) in Rauceby and that he is the earliest known forebear we have proof of connection to. The aim of course, is to try and delve further back but we are held up by lack of evidence. The Parish Records for Rauceby cannot tell us any more so we searched the Bishops Transcripts. The Transcripts confirmed that William THURLBY married Ann Sutton on 30th April in 1674. This was back in the time when the year began in April and ended in March! The top of the page is clearly headed 1674.

On the same page as the marriage is the baptism for William, son of
William & Ann Thurlby bapt. 24th January. Obviously this
son was born after their marriage. The writing was pretty good
for such an old document and indeed remained good back to about 1640.
Prior to this it was Latinised or secretary hand or some such and very, very
difficult to decipher.
We had hoped to find a baptism for William c1650 but if it was there we didn't see it.
There were two other entries which were earlier than the marriage of William & Ann as follows:
Rauceby, if anyone has ever been there, as I have, is a very small village and it is easy to speculate that the William above is the father of our William, and Josiah is our William´s younger brother.
THIS IS OF COURSE PURE SPECULATION AND SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED A FACT.
