Report on the Betham Will Abstracts Date: 3rd July 2006 Client: Glenn Nolen Search: One-Hour Genealogical Search Researcher: Dr. Robert Somerville-Woodward Aims & Results The stated aim of this one-hour Genealogical Search was to locate and copy the will abstract for Thomas Nolan of Ballinrobe, whose will was dated 1629. Our search has been successful and we have located the will abstract for Thomas Nolan of Ballinrobe. The results of our research are detailed in the report below. Report Betham Will Abstracts Sir William Betham’s will abstracts that were utilised to construct family pedigrees by Betham while he served as Deputy Ulster King at Arms are held on microfilm at the National Archives of Ireland. The early seventeenth century abstracts are not indexed, but are arranged by each letter in the alphabet and the correct will abstract was eventually located (Source: NAI., Bet. 1/51) and read as follows: Thomas Nolan of Ballinrobe in Co. Mayo, 17th April 1628. Dau[ghter] Annie Wife Enese [?] sister of Geoffrey Of Nicholas Martin. A copy of William Betham’s will abstract for Thomas Nolan is enclosed with our Report. We also examined Betham’s genealogical will abstracts and pedigrees for Thomas Nolan in the Genealogical Office of the National Library of Ireland. While we noted no specific pedigree for Thomas Nolan or a Nolan family from Co. Galway, we did note the presence of twenty-two will abstracts for individuals named Nolan. It is unclear whether or not any of these are relevant to Thomas Nolan and if so whether or not any additional information would be contained in the will abstract than that already located. At this point we concluded our research.
