Henrietta Marshall, 1857 - 1908
Henrietta or 'Etty' Marshall was born in Derby in 1857, the daughter of George and Jane Marshall. Etty's father was a framework knitter and Etty was one of nine children. Four years after her birth Etty and her family appear in the 1861 census at 11 Bloom Street. Also living with George and his wife and children is Etty's 64 year old grandfather Joseph Marshall, described as a widower and brewer by occupation.

Sadly for Etty and her family George Marshall died following the 1861 census and in 1870 Etty's mother remarried John Merry, a cordwainer. In the 1871 census all of the family had adopted the Merry surname and Henrietta is described as a 14 year old silk winder.
By 1880 Henrietta was living in Sneinton, Nottingham. It is not clear whether Henrietta had moved to Nottingham with the family, although her sister Ada has been found in the 1881 Nottingham census and was also a witness at Henrietta's marriage to Charles Marsh in November 1880.
Charles and Henrietta were, by 1891, living in Beeston, moving to Crown and Anchor Yard, London Road, before 1901. The 1901 census is however a mystery as Charles appears to change his name to William Stanley for no obvious reason and the whole family appear under this surname. Charles and Henrietta had nine children in total, including Edith Marsh in 1899.
In October 1908 Henrietta died at home in Newark Street, Nottingham. Charles is present at the death. She was buried in a family grave at Church Cemetery, Mansfield Road, Nottingham, at the age of 51.
