"If the Stones Could Talk............."
LISTEN!!!.....They DO!
Stanford Cemetery, Annsville, NY
The Stanford CEMETERY on Sheehan Road in Annsville, Oneida Co,
New York is not precisely a family cemetery, but its stones and the information
they offer do enrich the history of several families, many of whom are
MY families.
There are over one hundred burials in Stanford Cemetery; more than half
are connected to my family. The Stanford family arrived in Oneida
around 1800. The Miller families, who originally settled in
Rehoboth, MA when they came from England ca 1630, migrated across RI, CT
and MA, with a generation in Saratoga & Rensselaer Co, NY before
arriving in Oneida Co ca 1838.

The stones in this cemetery have spoken to me.
A year or so ago, I knew only that my Miller ggggrandparents &
gggrandparents were buried in Stanford Cemetery---along with a few Miller cousins.
The stones revealed much, much more.
My ggggrandmother was known to me as Abigail HANNEY---
I had no information concerning her origins. The presence of Hannay
family members in Stanford led me to investigate a possible connection, &
EUREKA I discovered that both the Hannay and the Stanford
families were very connected to mine! The Waterman family is also
connected to my families in this and other generations.
There are possible connections with the Cole, Bullock, Robinson
Sherman, Dyer, and Ward families buried here. There are apt to be
connections that I've yet to uncover--perhaps to YOUR family!
Please look. I've included photos and will be adding links to many of the
listings. Family or not, you'll see how the final resting place of our ancestors
can give answers--as well as a few questions--for your genealogy research.
EUREKA AGAIN!!!
These stones may be old, but they sure do know how to communicate!
With the help of this web-site and RootsWeb WorldConnect, the stones are shouting!
More connections and families have come together. Visit Ruth Helvy's great website
Pioneers, Patriots,Puritans and Scaliwags
for more info and photos of people buried here, particularly the Stanfords!
