Inside Old Baeuerlein Brewing Company
100 Evergreen Avenue & East Ohio
(now Pittsburgh Window & Door Company)
Special thanks go to Pittsburgh Window & Door
Companys' Tom Conroy,
who provided historical information, access to, and a tour, of the
interior
of the Old Baeuerlein Brewing Company, located at 100 Evergreen Avenue
in Millvale, PA. Tom's father purchased the building in the early 1960s
and moved his business there. Today, it is run by family members.
There were plenty of challenges to convert the building into a proper
business environment for Pittsburgh Window & Door Companys'
aluminum
home products. Many needed repairs, including an entire new roof, had
to
be taken care of. Yet, some upper floors of the original structure
remain
intact, as they were many years ago!
When functioning as a brewery, there were huge vats used to store and
age the
finished beer product, and an amazingly large piping system used to
transport
the beer from floor to floor. All that remains of the vats today are
some
of the "steel bands" that held the huge cedar tanks together.
Much of the plumbing for the transport piping system still remains
where it
was originally installed, along with a large antiquated "boiler type"
tank
(all pictured below).
At one time, the building across "Evergreen Plank Road" also belonged
to
the Baeuerlein Brewery Company. Today, decorative facades can still be
seen of Beer bottles and Stable Horses on the now abandoned structure.
Rooftop views (shown below) from atop the Stock House building, show
the
Millvale valley from a rather unique birds' eye view.
