Death Claims Aged McDonald Business Man
John C. PHILLIPS, 83, died at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 12, 1947, in his
home in North street, McDonald.
Born May 14, 1864, in Wales, Mr. PHILLIPS had resided in McDonald the past
60 years. He had been a prominent businessman in McDonald until several
years ago, when he retired due to ill health. He had operated a bakery and
confectionery and in later years a restaurant. He was a member of the First
U. P. church, McDonald. He and Mrs. Phillips had been married 59 years.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Amanda PHILLIPS; three daughters, Miss
Isabelle PHILLIPS of Crafton, Mrs. Stella CAMPBELL of Dunbar, W. Va., and
Mrs. Audrey FURMAN of Russell's Point, Ohio: one son Nesbit PHILLIPS of
Burgettstown; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth FRESHWATER of New Kensington, and
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 o'clock this Friday afternoon in the
Rogers funeral home, McDonald, in charge of the Rev. C. F. TAME, pastor of
the McDonald Methodist church. Burial will be in Robinson's Run cemetery.
