*George William White* served in WWI and WWII. Colonel White joined in
the Army in1918 and served as an enlisted man throughout WWI. He was
discharged in 1919 and in 1921 joined The American-Hawaiian Steamship
Company. During his career he was a consultant for the War Department
and in 1942, accepted a commission as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S.
Army where he supervised and directed the procedures to be followed in
connection with notifying enemy governments of the designation of U.S.
Army Hospital Ships and initiated policy to be followed by the United
States' large fleet of hospital ships. He visited all of the hospital
ships prior to their maiden voyages and indoctrinated the military and
civilian staffs permanently assigned to the hospital ships. He resigned
from the Army after WWII and returned to work for American-Hawaiian. He
was born in Tarrentum and was the brother of Izella May Hare. He was
married to Mabel Kohne and resided in Mt. Lebanon until his death in
1963. He was an avid photographer and although he had no children, he
was a devoted uncle to his many nieces and nephews.
