The Paul Thompson Family of Muskegon, Michigan

The Thompson family immigrant ancestor was Paul Thompson who appears to have immigrated from Sweden to the United States in about 1872. He was born on 04 Oct 1847 in Sweden. He is first seen in the 1880 census in Gloucester, Essex, Massachusetts. We do not know his exact date of arrival, port of arrival, or the name of the ship he traveled on, but he likely arrived in Boston.

On 20 Mar 1879 Paul Thompson married Emma Christina M. Friedberg in Gloucester, Essex, Massachusetts. She was also a Swedish emigrant (born 03 Mar 1852) who came to the United States in about 1876. Little is known about her arrival either. Their first child (Edith P.) was born in Massachusetts in May 1880.

By 05 May 1882, the Thompson family had moved to Muskegon, Muskegon, Michigan where the remaining 4 children were born. It was at this time that Paul Thompson declared his intention to become a citizen of the United States. Citizenship was granted to him on 02 Nov 1900 in Muskegon, Muskegon, Michigan.

Aside from his occupation as a fisherman, little else is known about Paul Thompson and the early Thompson family. Paul died on 21 Sep 1935 in Muskegon. His wife Emma died on 21 May 1933 in Muskegon.

One of the more interesting facts about the Thompson family is that it is believed the Thompson surname has survived 4 generations with a single male descendant: Austin William, Clark Minard, Paul Clark, and Kevin Paul. As such, there are currently only 5 people living the Thompson surname that are descendants of Paul Thompson (Paul Clark, Kevin Paul, Lórien Alicia, Eleora Nicole, and Kyria Magdalene).
