KEISERS man have originally come from Holland. I (H.C. Willms) have Ortsilppenbouch Helel (OSB) 1643-1900) by Ludwig Joanne & Hans Rudolph Manger that lists members of this church from 1643-1900. This book is on micro film as LDS family history library. This was on micro fiche; LDS #0293 page col 5859 in 1989. correct title is Die Familien der Kirchengemeinde Helel. There are over 30 KEISERS in this book. I have looked through microfilm on several other OSB'S in the Hesel area and found only one Keiser, who is also listed in the Hesel book. My OSB has several Wilms families leading em to believe the migration to Lippe Germany was possible. OSB pages are not standard size.

SPELLING OF NAME:
Alfred Kaiser who visited America from Germany said all the Keisers should have spelled their name with an "a". According to him there was a disagreement among the familly members, some deciding to use an "e" some deciding to use an "a", all come from the Kaiser family in Germany. He is related through both the Kaisers and Janssens.

The Harm Janssen Keiser (Kaiser) were descendants of the De Keizers who were French Huguenots and because of religious persecution fled to Holland, particularly to the province of Drenth and to Gronigon. Keizer coat-of arms-anchor and cloverleaf is preserved in the Groningen archives. As early as the sixteenth century a Keizer was the leader of an East Indian expedition, others were sailors in the company's fleet. The cloverleaf points to farming. In 1643 after the 30 Years War they left the Netherlands and settled in East Friesia, Germany where cholera had wiped out the population of whole regions. One of the Kaiser (Kaisers) ventured into the wild moorland region and settled there, the first resident of what later became the village of Firrel. Hiram Janssen Keiser and his wife Hillina Janssen Keiser emigrated from the village of Firrel, Ostfriesland, Germany

Anna Janssen was the first wife of Harm (Hiram) Kaiser. Both Anna and Hiram were born, married, and lived in Germany.

Hiram Keiser's first wife Anna Janssen died in Germany. Hiram remarried Helena Janssen. Children came to America prior to father Hiram and step mother Helena. Children came to America and wrote glowing letters back to their father and step-mother, Helena, in Germany. That influnced the parents to bring their family to America.

The KAISER family, from Firrel, Ostfriesland, Germany, left Bremerhaven, Germany on the sailing vessel "POST" Oct 1848. Christian P. SMITH was at the dock and saw the Hiram Kaiser family leave. When little Frances came along, he gave her blonde braids a "tweek". The trip took three months. When there was no wind the ship (POST) made very little progress and sometimes they were blown backwards during storms. There were no deaths among the crew or passengers, but some suffered terribly from seasickness. The children not so badly as the adults. There were a large number of children on board

They were almost without food and water when the ship stopped at Cuba to replenish. Frances KAISER had her 6th birthday (12 Dec 1848) on board the ship at Cuba. The weather was so hot that the resin came out of the board floor on deck. The children had to wear shoes because of the extreme heat on deck, prior to that they had gone barefooted. After putting in a supply of food and filling the water barrels they continued on to New Orleans, it took about three more weeks.

They arrived on New Year's Day, 1 Jan 1849 in New Orleans, LA, USA. After a three month voyage on the sailing vessel "POST". From there they took a Mississippi River steamer to Cairo, Alexander, Illinois. The river was so badly frozen they could go no farther. All travelers got off the boat at ten o'clock p.m. put there trunks in a circle and made a fire in the center. With men standing as guards against possible Indian attacks, the others settled down for their first cold winter's night in Illinois, USA. They saw no Indians.

About ten days later a larger river boat came along, broke through the ice and took them to Alton, IL. They made their way to Fosterburg Township, Madison County. IL. With what kind of transportation is not recorded.The Hirm Keiser family was among the early residents of the Alton, Madison Co, Illinois USA area.The Hiram Keisers and their six children first lived in a cabin with a dirt floor, rented from a Mrs. Dorsey. The building had a door but no windows, so the first improvement was a window for ventilation made by Hiram Kaiser. The family lived in this cabin until Spring. There was plenty of wood around for heating as there were forests in all directions. Hiram Kaiser was a violinist (played for dances) a bee keeper and a cabinet maker. The first winter the family lived very frugally, all resources were scarce. In February 1849, just a month after landing in America, Anna their 17 year old daughter died, then just weeks later in April another daughter, 8 year old Alma, died. Both died from "the strenuous voyage crossing." Parents often said, "Was this change of residence from Germany to America worth such a loss?

Hiram Keiser, a subject of the King of Hanover, became a citizen of the U.S. at the Court House, Edwardsville, Madison Co., IL 17 April 1855.

Spent much time in hospital in Washington, D.C. and later at Soldiers Home, Dayton, Ohio where he died on 12 March 1877--just one day before his 32nd birthday. Buried 15 March 1877 Soldiers' Home Cemetery--(Dayton Ohio) Section A, Lot Row 4, Grave # 16--Upright marker. He was also known as HENRY H.. He Never Married. He was First Baptist Church in Alton, IL in 1849. After a few years in Alton he took his letter of dismission from that church and moved to Fosterburg where he bacame one of the first charter members of the Fosterburg church. He was for many years superintendent of the sunday school and for about forty years elected as one of the deacons, filling the office most faithfully during all the years. He died on 2 Sep 1903 in Fosterburg, Madison, Illinois. Herbert H. Keiser leaves a wife and ten children to mourn his loss, yet they sorrow not as those who have no hope. He was married to his FIRST WIFE, WIBKA BERNS POST, 8 Feb 1853. They had five girls and one boy of which four girls are living at Mr. Keiser's death. He resided at 1846 to 1851 in Alton, Madison, Illinois. He lived in Alton five years and worked for Mr. Wade in the meat packing business. After that time he moved to Fosterburg, Madison, IL where he lived until his death. He resided at 1851 to death in Fosterburg, Madison, Illinois. Willms died at her home southeast of Johnstown last Friday night, after an illness of five weeks. Because of her advanced age, the loving care of her daughters and the best medical skill were of no avail except to keep her comfortable and free from pain. Feneral services were held in the Baptist Church Saturday afternoon with Dr. Phillip Snider officiatiing. Mrs. Harry Brown and Miss Evelyn Parish with Mrs. C.C. Crawford accompaning them at the piano, and the hymns Mrs. Willms had selected; "Rock of Ages," and "Jesus Savior, Pilot Me." The church was filled with friends of the deceased. Dr. and Mrs. O.E. Webb accompanied the remains to Ellinwood, where they were laid to rest beside her husband Monday afternoon. Minnie Ellen Kaiser was born in Moro, Madison, Illinois 30 May 1849 and passed away peacefully in her home at Milliken, CO, Nov 13th 1931, at the age of 82 years 5 months and 14 days.She was united in marriage to Charles A. Willms at Moro,IL on May 1, 1872. To this union six children were born, three sons and three daughters all of whom survive her; her husband preceded her to the great beyond on Sept. 3rd, 1929. The children are Mrs. O.E. Webb and Mrs. E.A. Gunning of Milliken, CO. Daniel E. Willms, Long Beach, CA William W. Willms, Medicine Lodge, KS; Mrs. Carrie Haas, Ellinwood, KS and Henry C. Willms, Little Rock, AR. She also leaves seventeen grand children and ten great-grandchildren, besides other relatives and a host of friends. She was converted and united with the Baptist church at an early age and in all the years that followed she never lost her faith in her Christ, and during her last illness she demonstrated the "peace that passeth understanding." A woman of high standard, she was an ardent supporter of things that made home a refuge, and an inspiration to her family and friends. She stood staunch and true thru the stress and strain of pioneer life in Kansas never failing in her adherence to the Christian ideals which constituted the main-spring of her life, and where ever she lived conditions were made better and life made sweeter. It may be said of her, "Her children arise up and call her blessed; her husband also he praiseth her." so when life's sweet journey ends Soul and body part like friends; no quarrels, no murmurs, no delay; A kiss, a sigh, and so away. She was buried in Ellinwood, Barton, Kansas. Dr. and Mrs. (Ester Caroline Webb) Owen E. Webb accompanied the ramains of Irma Aluitmia Ellen (Minnie) Kaiser Willms to Ellinwood, Barton, KS to be buried with her husband, Charles Augusta Willms. She resided at Moro/Fosterburg, Madison County, IL. They followed her brothe,r Geroge Keiser, to Kansas where they also took up farming. She Note from Florence Webb Parker.
