INFANT HARRIS
From: Daily Leaf Chronicle
February 14, 1901--Particulars of a horrible affair that happened in the 17th District reached the city today. Yesterday morning, the 5-week-old babe of Lewis Harris was burned to death, as was also his dwelling and its contents.
The infant was lying on the bed in its mother's room sleeping soundly, its father being out at the stable feeding and the mother in the kitchen preparing breakfast. Hearing a crackling sound in her room, the latter stepped across the hall and opened the door, when the flame burst out, painfully burning her face and breast. The fire had gained such headway that to rescue the child was impossible and its little body burned to a crisp. Its charred remains were interred this morning. The house was a total loss.
